Student answer (Band 6.0)

Many people tend to believe that fictional violence shown on televishion is just another kind of normal entertainment; while, others have completely opposite opinion and believes it encourages aggresive behaviour. I believe that violent nature of this TV character influence in violent behaviour.

Television provides us entertainment so we could forget our ongoing stress in our life and enjoy for a bit. After people coming from a long day of work or stressful school day they seek for some entertainment to ease their pressure. Violent fights in television provides same entertainment as other non violent programmes. Many of us enjoys action sequence in television just as a form of entertainment. For instance, a person just enjoys fictional action or fights just to enjoy the thrill and vibe of the show.

On the other hand, some people are encouraged by the fighting sequence and they apply them in real life to harm people. Every TV shows want to be their show or character as realistic as possible so, they also portraits the violence as realistically as possible. Seeing that kind of real like fight a person can be inspired by the character or he wish to live a life as shown in television. That influence him to develope violent behaviours and do harm to society. Recently a news was resurfced that police arrested a man who tried to mimic the character Walter White from TV show 'Breaking Bad' and tried to make his own illegal substance to build his own drug empire.

In conclusion, peoples phychological thinking can be vary and, some people just enjoys the thrill of a TV shows; while, some uses that as a inspiration to do bad in society. Therefore, I think people should encourage less violence in shows so that people cannot be inspired from the bad behaviour of the show.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

You discuss both views and state your own position: you explain that viewers may enjoy fictional fights as entertainment, then argue that realistic portrayals can influence behaviour. The example about a man imitating Walter White gives the second view a concrete illustration. However, the two sides are not developed equally: the entertainment argument is mostly a general claim about relieving stress, while the influence argument receives more explanation and an example. Your opinion is clear, but the conclusion’s recommendation to show less violence could be connected more directly to the reasons you have presented. Develop the first view with a specific example and explain more carefully how fictional portrayals might lead to real-world actions.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction, separate paragraphs for the two views, and a conclusion. The progression from the entertainment argument to the potential influence of violence is easy to follow, and signposts such as “On the other hand” and “In conclusion” help orient the reader. This meets the lower-band expectation for coherent organisation and shows some features of stronger progression. However, connections within sentences are sometimes awkward or unclear, as in “while, others have completely opposite opinion,” and the conclusion repeats the contrast rather than synthesising the discussion. Use linking words more selectively, clarify references such as “that influence him,” and make the final paragraph draw together the main reasoning.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use relevant vocabulary for the topic, including “fictional violence,” “violent behaviour,” “realistic,” “mimic,” and “illegal substance.” These choices allow you to discuss both entertainment and possible real-world effects. However, the range is limited in places, and several word-choice, collocation, and spelling errors reduce precision: “violent nature of this TV character,” “real like fight,” “resurfced,” and “as a inspiration” are examples. Some phrases are also repetitive, particularly “violence,” “show,” and “behaviour.” Build a wider set of accurate expressions for describing media influence and audience responses, and check spelling and natural word combinations. This would make your ideas clearer and more flexible.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and more complex sentence forms, including a contrast between the two views and a cause-and-effect explanation. The main ideas remain understandable, but errors in agreement, verb forms, articles, and sentence construction occur often enough to affect fluency. For example, “others … believes” and “Many of us enjoys” have subject–verb agreement problems, while “Television … provides” is followed by an awkward purpose clause. The opening sentence also has an unclear structure around “while.” Practise checking each sentence for a clear subject and verb, and review agreement and article use. Aim to make complex sentences accurate before adding further complexity.
