Student answer (Band 5.5)
Some argue that fictional violence on television is harmless entertainment. While some believe that it may possibly affect the way people behave to be violent. While both views are valid, I agree that violent behaviour on television is compelling and may influence the viewer's behaviour.
Violent scenes would usually appear in action films, some of them are rated for adults to let the viewers know that it's inappropriate for younger people to watch. But some fictional shows would portray some violent scenes, mainly because it's a part of the story. Shows in general may influence our behaviour, this is especially detrimental for adolescence because some of them are easily influenced and possibly affect their character development. One of the reasons on why some audience would follow a character's negative behaviour is because they seem charismatic. For instance, aggressive behaviour seems compelling to the viewer and implement the character's trait in real life.
On the contrary, some people normalise watching television shows involving violence, because they know the difference between fictional violence and that of reality. Therefore, they continue to watch and focus more on the plot instead of making the violence a problem. the reason why it is difficult for them to get encouraged by harmful behaviour is they have a strong sense of authenticity and stick to their own moral. For example, rebellious behaviour of the show the viewer is watching might appear attractive, but it won't affect their behaviour because it is not a positive trait for them to adopt.
In conclusion, people that are easily influenced by their surroundings should not watch shows involving violence as it may affect their behaviour.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
You address both perspectives and state your own view: the opening says television violence “may influence the viewer’s behaviour,” while the second body paragraph explains why some viewers distinguish fiction from reality. The examples about younger viewers and charismatic characters are relevant. However, the discussion is only partly developed: the claim that aggressive behaviour is “compelling” is not fully explained, and the opposing view relies mainly on viewers having a “strong sense of authenticity,” which is unclear. Your conclusion recommends that easily influenced people avoid violent shows, but does not clearly restate your overall judgement about whether such violence is generally harmless or influential. Develop each side with a clearer explanation and a specific example.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The response has a recognisable structure, with an introduction, separate paragraphs for the two views, and a conclusion. Phrases such as “On the contrary” and “For instance” help signal relationships between ideas. However, progression within paragraphs is sometimes difficult to follow because several points are joined without a clear explanation of how they connect. For example, the move from age ratings to fictional scenes and then to adolescent character development needs a more explicit link. The opening also repeats “While,” and the second body paragraph begins with a lowercase “the.” Use topic sentences to establish each paragraph’s main point, then organise supporting explanation and examples in a clear sequence; vary linking expressions rather than relying on them to carry the logic.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use relevant vocabulary for the topic, including “fictional violence,” “character development,” “aggressive behaviour,” and “moral.” These choices make the subject clear, and there are attempts to express more abstract ideas about influence and viewers’ responses. However, the range is limited by repeated use of “behaviour,” “violence,” and “shows,” while some word choices or combinations are unclear or unnatural. For example, “strong sense of authenticity” does not clearly express why viewers resist influence, and “implement the character’s trait in real life” is not an idiomatic way to describe imitation. Aim for more precise collocations and avoid repeating the same general terms; alternatives such as “imitate,” “depiction,” and “distinguish between fiction and reality” would help convey your ideas more naturally.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt a mixture of simple and complex sentences, including clauses with “because,” “while,” and “that,” and your meaning is generally understandable. However, complex structures are often faulty or incomplete. The opening sentence, “While some believe that it may possibly affect the way people behave to be violent,” is a fragment and has an unclear construction. In “Violent scenes would usually appear in action films, some of them are rated for adults,” two independent clauses are joined with only a comma. Other problems include “the reason on why” and the missing capital at the start of “the reason why.” Work on complete sentence formation, clause connections, and accurate prepositions, and proofread punctuation and capitalisation. These changes would make your ideas easier to follow.
