Student answer (Band 6.5)
The impact of fictional violence on television has long been a subject of intence debate .While a segment of society views these programs as nothing more than a harmless form of recreation ,other contend that media voilence directly fosters aggressive tendencies in real life . This essay will examine both perpectives.
on the one hand ,many people argue that onsreen violence serves as simple entertainment with few real-world consequences . Proponents of this view believe that the vast majority of adult possessthe congnitive maturity to distinguish clearly between fantasy and reality . For these individuals, watching an action movie or a crime dramas act as aform of escapism or emotional catharsis , allowing them to release daily stress safely . Futhermore , yhere is little historical evidenceto suggest a direct causual link between the consumption of mainstream violent media and a significant rise in violence crime among general population , indicating that most individuals remain unaffected by what they see on screen .
on the other hand, critics agrue that excessive exposure to televised brutality can severely distort a viewer's psychological outlook . The primary concern is desensitization ;their natural empathy toward real-world suffering can become blunted .Furthermore , this exposure can lead to imitation ,particulary among young children who lack the analytical skill to process psychological studies have demonstrated that children who regularly watch aggressive cartoon characters or live -action fight are much more likely to exhibit bullying behavior or resolve conflicts physically on the playground .
In conclusion , both arguement possess merit depending on the demographic in question .In my opinion ,while fictional violence remains a harmless pastime for well-adjusted adults,it cannot be deemed entirely benign.Without proper parental guidance and age -appropriate restriction ,it carries a substantail risk of desensitizing youth and encouraging hostile behavior

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0
The response addresses both views and gives a clear, consistent position: fictional violence may be harmless for well-adjusted adults but can pose risks to young viewers without guidance. Each side is supported with relevant reasoning, including escapism and catharsis on one hand, and desensitisation and imitation on the other. The reference to children copying aggressive characters helps make the second argument concrete. This fits a response that covers the task and extends its ideas, although some claims are broad rather than carefully qualified—for example, the assertion that there is “little historical evidence” of a link is not supported with a specific example. The discussion of adult viewers is also more general than developed. More precise evidence and fuller explanation of these points would strengthen the argument further.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0
The essay has a clear overall progression: an introduction identifies the debate, separate paragraphs discuss each view, and the conclusion states your position. Signposting such as “on the one hand,” “on the other hand,” and “In conclusion” makes the structure easy to follow, while the contrast between adult viewers and children helps connect the discussion to your opinion. Cohesion is generally effective, though some transitions are mechanical and punctuation spacing sometimes interrupts the flow. The sentence beginning “Furthermore, this exposure can lead to imitation” also runs into the following point without a clear boundary, making the relationship between imitation and the claim about studies less precise. Use transitions more selectively and ensure each paragraph’s supporting points are clearly linked.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.5
You use a suitable range of topic vocabulary, including “escapism,” “emotional catharsis,” “desensitization,” and “aggressive tendencies,” and these choices show some flexibility and awareness of an academic register. The meaning remains understandable despite several spelling errors and inaccurate or awkward combinations, such as “violence crime,” “crime dramas act,” and “analytical skill to process psychological studies.” These slips prevent the vocabulary from being consistently precise and natural, even though the range is adequate and some less common terms are used effectively. Proofread spelling carefully and check collocations and word forms; for example, ensure that a noun phrase such as “violent crime” is formed correctly and that each verb agrees with its subject.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0
The response includes a mix of simple and complex forms, such as the concession in “while fictional violence remains a harmless pastime for well-adjusted adults” and the explanation of how viewing may affect children. Most ideas can be followed, but some grammatical errors and punctuation problems remain. For example, “watching an action movie or a crime dramas act” has a subject–verb and number mismatch, while “the vast majority of adult posses” lacks the appropriate plural form and article. The sentence about children who “lack the analytical skill to process psychological studies have demonstrated” is structurally incomplete because the clause is not properly connected to the claim that follows. Review agreement, articles, plurals, and sentence boundaries, especially in longer sentences, to improve control.
