Student answer (Band 6.5)
Whether the fictional violence streamed on television is harmless entertainment, or promotes violent behaviour remains a contentious issue. In this essay, I will examine both the viewpoints and further provide my opinion why I believe violence programs on television is harmless but can have negative impact on the young audience (below the age of 18).
On one side, proponents of this view believe that most adults are aware that such movies and shows are scripted for pure entertainment purpose. By watching them does not translate into violent behaviour. For example, the movie "Avengers - Infinity War", is globally the most watched movie. The movie involves several action scenes which are brutal and violent. However, it did not result in any criminal act by the viewers. Moreover, there is no evidence suggesting that any crime that occured due to the influence of the movie.
On the other side, opponents argue that the fictional violence content on television can develop anger issues among children. This is because young individuals are still naive and cannot differentiate between the reality and fictional. Moreover, their brain is still developing and watching violent scenes, they may start to behave aggresively. For instance, in the UK, a study proved a direct link between the teenagers behaviour and the type of content they consume online. The study also suggested children should not be allowed to watch any entertainment that are too violent because it results in aggressive behaviour and start to often disobey their parents and teachers.
In conclusion, although adults watch fictional violence for entertainment purpose solely, children below the age of 18 may not be able to distinguish between fictional and reality. Therefore, I strongly belive children should be restricted to watch such contents on television until they turn adult to understand the difference.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
You address both views and give a clear position: fictional violence is generally harmless for adults but may affect children. The examples of Avengers and the UK study are relevant, and your conclusion follows from your argument. This meets the task well, while showing some of the stronger development expected at the next level. However, the first example mainly asserts that the film caused no crime; it does not explain how this supports the broader claim that fictional violence is harmless. The study is also described vaguely, without details that would clarify its evidence. Develop each example by explaining the link between evidence and claim, and qualify broad statements such as “there is no evidence” to make the reasoning more convincing.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0
The essay has a clear four-paragraph structure, with one paragraph for each view and a conclusion that restates your position. Signposting such as “On one side,” “On the other side,” and “In conclusion” makes the progression easy to follow. This is a logical and coherent arrangement. To make the connections more flexible and less formulaic, vary the transitions and use clearer references between ideas. For example, “this view” in the introduction could identify which view you mean, and the sentence beginning “The study also suggested” would benefit from a more explicit link to the preceding claim about teenagers. Within paragraphs, connect examples to the point they illustrate rather than relying mainly on sequencing phrases.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
You use an adequate range of topic vocabulary, including “fictional violence,” “scripted,” “criminal act,” “differentiate,” and “aggressively,” so your meaning is generally clear. There are also attempts at more formal phrasing, such as “proponents” and “opponents.” However, some word choices and collocations are inaccurate or awkward: “entertainment purpose,” “violence programs,” and “entertainment that are too violent” do not sound natural in context. Spelling errors such as “occured” and “belive” also reduce accuracy. Aim for precise, natural combinations and check spelling carefully; this would make the argument sound more fluent and controlled without changing its meaning.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0
You use a mix of simple and complex structures, including a concession in the conclusion and explanations with “because.” Most sentences remain understandable, but some grammatical errors persist. For example, “By watching them does not translate” has an incorrect sentence structure; write “Watching them does not translate” or “Watching them does not lead to.” In “violence programs on television is harmless,” the subject and verb do not agree, and “differentiate between the reality and fictional” needs parallel grammatical forms. The sentence “watching violent scenes, they may start” also needs a clearer subject connection. Review agreement, articles, and clause construction, while continuing to use varied sentence forms.
