Student answer (Band 5.5)

When discussing about entertainment, television is one the main tool that most people use to leisure their time. Some people love watching fictional violence and they think it is harmless entertainment, but others disagree about this opinion because they believe that it encourages violent behavior.

I believe that movie directors and film makers are the one who have a wide imagination that should be recognize. Creating fictional violence is not just one day, for them to finish their goal it requires them to study the plot of the story and make sure it will become interesting to the viewers, that is why most people love it even it is full of suspense and thrill. I remember my school head teacher, he is not fan of any movies but when he started reading the works of Edgar Allan Poe, he started to loved watching fictional violence in the television because of him. He also told me that this genre teach him how to survive in different situation.

On the other side, some does not agree that this type of genre in television is safe, they find it disturbing and encourage violent behavior. Knife, blood, killing, dying and swearing are examples that a viewers can see in fictional violence that for them is not appropriate especially to the young generation who cannot understand well. There was a news last 2025 in Daily News in USA where someone died because it happened that they were playing based on what they watch and accidentally killed his bestfriend because this. Showing how harmful can be the type of movies that they watched in their mind.

In conclusion, people tends to love fictional violence because it also teach them a survival mode in a real life situation, conversely to others who think it can harm the imagination of young generation through watching this type of genre in the television. For me, I believe that no matter what is the category shows in the television, it is important that the station of every channel have a warning sign of what appropriate age should watch it and a parents must be their everytime their children are watching television.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

You address both views and give a personal position: you explain why some viewers enjoy fictional violence, present concerns about its influence on young people, and recommend age warnings and parental supervision. The examples about your head teacher and the reported death help make the discussion relevant. However, the two sides are not developed equally clearly. The claim that the genre teaches viewers “how to survive” is asserted rather than explained, and the news example is difficult to assess because its connection between viewing and real violence is not explored. Your final opinion focuses mainly on safeguards, so make your judgement about whether fictional violence is generally harmless or potentially harmful more explicit and support it with a clearer reason. This would make the response more fully developed across all parts of the task.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction, separate paragraphs for the two views, and a conclusion. Transitions such as “On the other side” and “In conclusion” help readers follow the discussion. However, some connections are mechanical or unclear. For example, “Showing how harmful can be the type of movies that they watched in their mind” is a fragment and does not clearly link the news story to the preceding point. The first body paragraph also moves from directors’ imagination to your head teacher without fully explaining the connection. Use topic sentences that state each paragraph’s main point, then develop it in a logical sequence. Clearer referencing and links between examples and claims would make the progression smoother.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use relevant vocabulary for the topic, including “fictional violence,” “disturbing,” “suspense,” “thrill,” and “violent behavior,” and the meaning is generally understandable. There are also attempts at less common expressions, such as “survival mode,” though this is not quite natural in the context of learning from films. Several word-choice and collocation problems make the writing less precise: “leisure their time,” “love it even it is full of suspense,” and “a viewers” are awkward or inaccurate. Repetition of “fictional violence,” “genre,” and “television” also limits variety. Build a more accurate range of topic phrases and check whether words naturally combine, especially when describing audience effects and parental guidance.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and more complex sentences, including clauses with “because,” “when,” and “who,” and the main ideas can usually be understood. However, errors in agreement, verb forms, articles, and sentence construction are frequent enough to make some passages difficult to follow. Examples include “movie directors and film makers are the one,” “should be recognize,” “he started to loved,” and “some does not agree.” The sentence beginning “Showing how harmful…” is incomplete, while “a parents must be their” has an unclear structure. Practise checking subject–verb agreement and verb forms, and make sure each sentence has a complete main clause. Shorter, accurately controlled sentences would improve clarity while you continue developing complex structures.
