Student answer (Band 5.5)

It has been argued that the fictional violence seen on TV is a source of entertainment without any harm, however, other thinks that it encourages violent behaviour. In my opinion, the latter argue is correct because such type of behaviour is adapted by some viewers, resulting in severe crimes.

Many people thinks that fake fights in TV serials are just a way of entertainment and motivation to be powerful because most of the adults love to watch fighting and wants to be a bodybuilder like they see in movies. Mostly, this is very common with teenagers and adults. They want to learn things such as martial arts, wrestling, and other forms of fighting as a means of self-dense and joy of fullfilment. That is why, they have a positive views on these types of fictional violence as they are pursuing this as a source of learning and fun.

However, those who disagree with this argument perceive such serials as harmful because they are afraid that people are learning to become aggressive and violent. It is due to the fact that what people see, they become like that. If a person watches many movies related to violence, he can adapt to such behaviour unknowningly. This has also resulted in the increase rate of crimes as it is already documented that most of the crimes by adults are resulted due to their association with violence. Viewers get to know various ways of violence through these type of serials which can be adapted to do real crimes.

In conclusion, although, fictional violence provide a sense of joy and motivation to be powerful, it has more influence on building a violent behaviour and results in increase rate of crimes.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

You discuss both views and state a clear opinion: you present fictional violence as entertainment and motivation, then argue that it can encourage aggression and crime. This addresses the task, and the conclusion restates your position. However, the two sides are not developed equally. The positive view is mainly linked to wanting to become powerful or learn fighting, while the opposing view relies on broad claims such as “what people see, they become like that” and an asserted rise in crime. These points need explanation or a relevant example to show how fictional portrayals influence behaviour. To strengthen the response, qualify generalisations and develop the causal link between viewing violence and real-world actions more carefully.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction, one paragraph for each view, and a conclusion. The contrastive transition “However” helps signal the shift to the opposing argument, and the main position is easy to follow. Some connections are less clear or feel mechanical, particularly the repeated use of “That is why” and “It is due to the fact that.” The sentence beginning “Mostly, this is very common with teenagers and adults” also leaves the reference of “this” somewhat vague. Improve progression by making each paragraph’s main point explicit, linking supporting details directly to it, and using pronouns only when their reference is unmistakable. This would make the organisation more consistently smooth.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use relevant vocabulary for the topic, including “fictional violence,” “aggressive,” “martial arts,” and “crimes,” so the main ideas are generally understandable. However, the range is limited by repeated general words such as “violence,” “people,” and “behaviour,” and several word choices or collocations are inaccurate. For example, “self-dense” appears to mean self-defence, “joy of fullfilment” is unclear, and “increase rate of crimes” is not a natural phrase. Spelling errors such as “unknowningly” also reduce accuracy. Build a more precise range by learning topic-specific collocations and checking spelling and word forms; this will help express the argument without relying on repeated or unclear phrasing.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt a mix of simple and complex sentences, including clauses with “because,” “although,” and “as,” and the overall meaning remains understandable. Some errors occur in agreement, articles, and sentence construction. For instance, “other thinks” should be “others think,” “Many people thinks” should be “Many people think,” and “fictional violence provide” should be “fictional violence provides.” The opening sentence also joins contrasting ideas with a comma, where a full stop or semicolon would be clearer. In the conclusion, “although” is punctuated awkwardly before the main clause. Review subject–verb agreement and punctuation, then check each sentence for a complete, correctly connected structure. More accurate control of these patterns would make your complex sentences clearer.
