Student answer (Band 5.5)
A widespread belief is that fictional violence portrayed on television is harmless entertainment while many disagree and says that it encourages violent behavior among viewers. In my opinion its harmless or harmful behavior depends on the perspective and psychology of the people.
Fictional violence shown on the television is considered harmless by many people as it is work of fiction and it does not have any relation to the reality. They believe that everything shown in fictional work weather it is movies, drama or any other thing it has no relevance in real world. For example there are no superheros in real life as compared to movies. Similarly fictional violence have little importance in real life and people only consider it as simple entertainment.
On the other hand, some people believe that it promotes violent behavior and is detrimental for the people. As people watch fiction movies or drama they tends to believe that whatever main protagonist does is right and there will be no negative outcome of those actions, even violence. If we take children as example they like to copy there favorite hero, same can be said about violence. Also people become accustomed to watching violence that they start believing that it common and does the same in real life.
In conclusion, it is both harmful and harmless depending on the person. I believe that its negative impact outweighs the positive or neutral part that is why fictional violence content should be age restricted and people should watch non-fiction work to stay connected to reality.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
You discuss both views and give a clear final position: fictional violence can affect people differently, but its negative impact outweighs its benefits. The examples about children copying heroes and viewers becoming accustomed to violence are relevant, though the first view—that fiction is separate from reality—is explained less fully and supported mainly by the superhero example. The conclusion offers age restrictions, but the essay could explain more precisely why this is an effective response. The response is 249 words, so it falls one word short of the 250-word minimum; the eight words copied from the prompt are not counted. Develop the less-supported view and add a specific example or explanation to strengthen your response.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The essay has a coherent overall arrangement: an introduction, one paragraph for each view, and a conclusion. The contrast between the positions is easy to follow, and signposts such as “On the other hand” and “In conclusion” help guide the reader. However, some connections are mechanical or unclear. For example, “Similarly fictional violence have little importance” does not clearly show how the superhero example supports the broader claim, and “same can be said about violence” is vague in its reference. The conclusion also repeats the introduction’s idea that effects depend on the person rather than synthesising the reasons. Use clearer referencing and link each example explicitly to the point it illustrates.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use enough topic-related vocabulary to communicate the main ideas, including “fictional violence,” “promotes violent behavior,” “detrimental,” and “negative impact.” There are also attempts at more specific phrasing, such as “main protagonist” and “age restricted.” However, several word choices and collocations are inaccurate or repetitive: “work of fiction” is used where “a work of fiction” is needed, “fictional violence have little importance” is awkward, and “non-fiction work” is imprecise in this context. Spelling errors such as “weather,” “superheros,” and “there” for “their” also reduce accuracy. Build a more precise range of expressions for discussing imitation, desensitisation, and media influence, and check spelling carefully.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt both simple and complex sentence forms, including a contrast clause in the opening and conditional reasoning with “If we take children as example.” Meaning is generally understandable, but some errors in agreement, articles, and sentence construction remain. For instance, “many disagree and says” has a subject–verb agreement error, “they tends to believe” should agree with “they,” and “fictional violence have” has a singular/plural mismatch. Articles are also missing in “as example” and “it common.” The sentence beginning “They believe that everything shown…” is difficult to control and would be clearer if divided or restructured. Practise checking agreement and articles, while retaining a mix of sentence patterns.
