Student answer (Band 6.0)

Many people of different age groups in present times are spending their leisure hours watching screens where fictional violence is commonly displayed and practiced in either TV soaps or movies, which are often criticized by people at large due to its negative impacts while, some people consider it as a mere source of entertainment. Moreover, the essay will further talk about both the views from broader perspective, respectively.

Majority of times, the audience watching TV soaps, series and movies are children in adolescence age for whom every fictional act or trend that they see including action fights, ragging, or petty crimes, they tend to portray the same in reality out of curiosity and fun which many a times results in severe consequences of harm, violence and in the behavioral changes of children. For instance, a recent news appeared in the newspaper, stating an incident that took place in a village in Rajasthan states where a boy named Manav (15 years old) was addicted to watching violent action movies and series and one fine day he caught up in a fight with his classmate and had beaten up him vigorously after learning few action kicks through a fictional action series " Dark Knight" that he used to watch often during his leisure hours. Hence, constant involvement and over portrayal of fictional violence through TV channels not only proven to be harmful physically but also mentally in regard to problems such as anger issues and hyperactivity.

Although, display of fictional violence through medium of TV channels is mostly criticized, it also has certain positive impact as it aware the general public about the different types of crime prevalent now and ways of dealing with it. For instance, a movie named " Kung Fu Panda" which is mostly popular among teenagers showed the importance of martial arts and karate at greater scale which resulted in greater enrolment of children in the classes of these particular fields which holds prime necessity to learn from the safety viewpoint.

In conclusion, though there are certain benefits of fictional violence portrayal, but the scale of negative outcomes and consequences are far more in outweigh positive result in present times which is highly depicted through current scenario of crimes taking place due to large influence from movies and TV dramas. Hence, I disagree with the statement that, fictional violence are just source of entertainment.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

You address both views and state your own position clearly: you argue that fictional violence can have benefits, but its harmful effects outweigh them. The paragraph about children imitating violent acts is relevant and supported with a specific example, while the Kung Fu Panda example gives some support to the opposing view. This meets the task well overall, but the two sides are not developed equally. The claimed benefit of raising awareness about crime is only briefly explained, and the example focuses more on martial arts classes than on how fictional violence itself informs viewers. To strengthen the response, explain more precisely why some audiences regard fictional violence as harmless entertainment, then develop and qualify the examples rather than relying on broad claims about its effects.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction, separate paragraphs for the two views, and a conclusion that restates your position. The progression from possible harm to possible benefit is easy to follow, and examples help connect claims to supporting detail. However, some linking is mechanical or awkward, particularly “Moreover, the essay will further talk about both the views” and the repeated use of “For instance” and “Hence.” The opening sentence is also very long, making the main point harder to identify. Improve cohesion by using more direct topic sentences and clearer references between claims and examples; for example, explicitly explain how the Kung Fu Panda example supports the view that fictional violence can be harmless or beneficial.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

You use a reasonably broad range of topic vocabulary, including “fictional violence,” “negative impacts,” “consequences,” “anger issues,” and “hyperactivity.” These choices make the subject clear, and you attempt some less common expressions. However, several phrases are inaccurate or unnatural, such as “portrayed … and practiced,” “in adolescence age,” “caught up in a fight,” and “in outweigh positive result.” Some repetition of “violence,” “movies,” and “TV” also limits flexibility. Aim for more natural collocations and precise word forms, such as “depicted,” “adolescents,” “became involved in a fight,” and “outweigh the positive effects.” This would make your vocabulary sound more controlled without requiring unnecessarily complex wording.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt a mix of simple and complex structures, including relative clauses and contrast clauses, as in “Although … it also has certain positive impact.” The main ideas remain understandable, but some grammatical errors recur and occasionally make sentences difficult to process. For example, “which are often criticized … due to its negative impacts” has unclear agreement and reference, while “a recent news appeared” and “he caught up in a fight” have faulty verb forms. There are also errors in articles, plurals, and sentence boundaries, including “the scale of negative outcomes … are” and the comma after “statement that.” Work on building shorter, well-controlled sentences first, then check subject–verb agreement, articles, and verb forms in longer clauses.
