Student answer (Band 5.5)

Many people believe that fictional violance dispalyed on television for the purpose of entertainment is harmless, but some argue that such things promote violent behaviour. I believe the latter is true because it influences people negatively and aso normalises violence.

Many people believe that genres like thriller and action is for entertainment purpose only and deny of it having any adverse effects on the society. They think that if people can keep entertainment and personal life seperated, then it is not possible for people to get impacted by such shows and movies. Moreover, it is a favourite genre of entertainment for many individuals which is also the reason why they promote such shows and are against the people who do not promote it. For example, in my hometown people love action and thriller movies more than romantic movies.

Some people argue that violent shows and movies should neither be produced nor promoted as it leaves a bad influence on masses particularly young generation. Such entertainment normalises violence, due to which people tend to get influenced and hence are seen following the same behaviour. Additionally, such sources of entertainment instils ideas into the minds of individuals, who then commit crimes in the similar manner. A clear example to prove it is, in my country a show used to air which revolved around crimes and it was suggested that people committed the same crimes with exact same tactics.

In conclusion, although such shows are made for entertainment purpose only, but in my opinion, it leaves wrong impression on people especially among young kids.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

You address both views and state your position clearly in the opening: you believe fictional violence can encourage harmful behaviour. The response also gives relevant reasons, including normalisation and the possibility that viewers imitate crimes, and the example of a crime-focused television show supports this point. However, the opposing view is less fully explained: the claim that viewers can separate entertainment from real life is presented, but not explored with a specific reason or example. Your own position is repeated in the conclusion, but the discussion would be stronger if you developed both sides more evenly and explained how the example supports your argument rather than relying on a broad claim about people copying crimes.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The response has a clear overall arrangement: an introduction, one paragraph for each view, and a conclusion. This makes the discussion easy to follow, and linking expressions such as “Moreover,” “Additionally,” and “In conclusion” help signal relationships between ideas. Some connections are less precise or feel mechanical, however. For example, “Moreover” introduces the popularity of action films, but the link between popularity and the belief that violence is harmless could be made clearer. The sentence beginning “A clear example to prove it is” also leads into an example whose relevance needs more explanation. Use referencing and transitions to show exactly how each example supports the point, and connect the conclusion more directly to the two arguments discussed.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use a relevant range of topic vocabulary, including “fictional violence,” “adverse effects,” “normalises violence,” and “commit crimes,” which allows you to discuss the issue clearly. There are also attempts at more formal phrasing, such as “influences people negatively.” However, spelling errors and imprecise or unnatural combinations are noticeable, including “violance,” “dispalyed,” “seperated,” and “leaves a bad influence.” Some repetition of “entertainment” and “people” also limits flexibility. Aim to check spelling carefully and choose more natural collocations; for instance, say that something “has a negative influence” or “is intended for entertainment.” More precise wording would make your ideas sound clearer and more controlled.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt a mix of simple and complex sentences, including conditional and relative structures: “if people can keep entertainment and personal life separated…” and “individuals, who then commit crimes…”. The main ideas remain understandable, but some grammatical errors recur. For example, “genres like thriller and action is” has a subject–verb agreement problem, while “such sources … instils” should use a plural verb. The conclusion’s “although … but” construction is also faulty, and “it leaves” does not clearly agree with the plural “shows.” Work on agreement, sentence patterns with “although,” and clear pronoun reference. More accurate control of these structures would make the argument easier to read.
