Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 3.0
The response repeats the topic and gives a personal view, but it does not meaningfully discuss both sides of the question. The claim that television is “the most important” because people use it for work and international meetings is not an explanation of whether fictional violence is harmless or encourages violent behaviour. The opposing view is only restated, with no reasons or relevant examples, and the final opinion remains unclear because it shifts back to television’s general usefulness. The response is also largely off-topic and does not meet the 250-word minimum: it contains 173 words, with 22 copied prompt words excluded. To improve, explain each view directly, state a clear position, and support it with specific examples.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 3.0
There is a basic attempt to move from one view to the other, using phrases such as “on the other side” and “but i think.” However, the response is one long, largely unpunctuated sequence, so the reader cannot easily distinguish an introduction, discussion of each view, and conclusion. Ideas also circle back repeatedly to television’s importance rather than progressing through reasons and evidence. References such as “that” and “this” are often unclear, as in “that benefits of having a television.” Use separate paragraphs for the two views and your opinion, and connect each point with clear references and transitions. This would create a more coherent progression rather than relying on a few repetitive linking phrases.
Lexical Resource: Band 4.5
The response uses some vocabulary relevant to the topic, including “fictional violence,” “harmless entertainment,” and “violent behaviour,” so the central subject is recognisable. However, the range is narrow and many phrases are repeated, especially “television” and “that.” Several word choices or combinations are unclear or unnatural, such as “we have all work on the television,” “for own priority,” and “how make the easier life makes.” These choices make it difficult to understand the intended ideas. Build a more precise topic vocabulary and use natural collocations to explain effects, for example, “influence viewers’ behaviour” or “provide a safe form of entertainment.” Check spelling and word forms as well, including “os” and “fir.”
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5
The response attempts to connect ideas in longer sentences, for example, “Others disagree with that thinking they think that it encourages violent,” but sentence boundaries and punctuation are often missing. This creates run-on sentences and makes relationships between clauses difficult to follow. There are also recurring problems with sentence structure and grammatical forms, as in “that is the situation i will discuss this,” “we have all work,” and “it it encourages violent.” Capitalisation of “I” and sentence openings is inconsistent. Most of the response relies on simple clauses joined together, with little controlled variety. Practise writing complete sentences with one main idea each, then add subordinate clauses accurately; use full stops and commas to make the structure clear.
