Student answer (Band 6.0)

There are two views regarding the fictional violence portrayed on television. On one hand some people say that these are harmless entertainment whereas, others think these activities encourage violent behaviour. However, I think that these acts are harmless entertainment because individual know the difference between fiction and reality and can take their own decission without getting inspired by some shows.

According to some people violence shown in fictional televison show are harmless because watchers are well aware of fiction and reality. People take decission what feels right to them not by watching some shows and if they take real life choices by television shows they are stupid. For instance: people make daily thousands of choices, while making those choices individuals choose what seems right to them so the decision they take totally depends on what personality that certain person has.

Meanwhile, there are others assuming that it encourage aggressive behaviour from certain angle this views is also right. Not all viewers are adult some of them are children also and kids learn what they see so from watching violence in shows their minds infulences them to do the same. For example: if the kids see criminals being portrayed as heroes they build concept in which being criminal makes them center of attention and might conduct those acts.

In conclusion, what effects the violence portrayed on television shows totally depends on who the watchers are. If the viewer is rational they take these activities as a harmless entertainment however, if they are irrational and kids they might be ecvouraged in violent behaviour. As for me, nowadays even the children are rational and have knowledge of fiction and reality so I think they are only harmless entertainment shows.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

You discuss both views and state your own position clearly: you consider fictional violence harmless for most viewers, while acknowledging that children may imitate what they see. The examples about viewers making their own choices and children seeing criminals portrayed as heroes are relevant. However, the two sides are not developed equally. The first argument relies on the broad claim that people distinguish fiction from reality, and calling those who do not “stupid” does not explain why media influence is unlikely. Your conclusion also introduces the claim that children nowadays are rational without supporting it, which weakens the reasoning and sits uneasily with your earlier point about children being influenced. Develop each view with more balanced explanation and evidence.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction, separate paragraphs for the two views, and a conclusion. Phrases such as “On one hand,” “Meanwhile,” and “In conclusion” help readers follow the discussion, and the ideas generally progress in a logical order. This meets the lower-band expectations and shows some flexibility in organising the argument. However, transitions can feel mechanical, and some references are unclear: “these activities” could refer to television violence or viewers’ actions, while “from certain angle this views” makes the relationship between ideas difficult to follow. The conclusion repeats the main points rather than drawing them together. Use more precise referencing and connect each example explicitly to the claim it supports.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use enough topic-related vocabulary to communicate the main ideas, including “fictional violence,” “violent behaviour,” “aggressive behaviour,” and “portrayed as heroes.” There are also attempts to express more specific concepts, such as “center of attention.” However, the range is limited by repeated general words such as “people,” “shows,” and “decision,” and several choices or forms are inaccurate: “decission,” “televison,” “infulences,” and “ecvouraged.” Phrases such as “these activities” and “take decision” are also imprecise or unnatural. These errors do not prevent the reader from understanding the argument, but they reduce precision and control. Build a wider set of accurate collocations for discussing media influence and audience behaviour.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt both simple and complex sentence forms, including a contrast clause in “whereas others think…” and a conditional structure beginning “if the viewer is rational.” The paragraphing also helps make the argument understandable. However, some grammatical errors remain, particularly with agreement, articles, and sentence boundaries. For example, “violence shown in fictional television show are harmless” has a singular/plural mismatch, and “individual know” needs a plural subject or a singular verb form. The opening runs sentences together after “television,” and the final sentence has an awkwardly joined contrast. Review subject–verb agreement and punctuation, and practise building accurate complex sentences before adding several ideas to one sentence.
