Student answer (Band 5.5)

There is an ongoing debate about the fictional violence displayed on the television. Some people argue that it is harmless content while others argue that it is beneficial because it encourages violent behavior. Both statements have valid arguments. I believe that its advantages overweigh the drawbacks. This essay will discuss both views.

On the one hand, television is the thing from where children adapt and learn anything rapidly and it often shows the dramas and films in which fictional violence takes place. Children are also attracted towards television and when they see such content, they become anxious about it. For instance, when children see any violence, even if it is not true, those actions remained in their minds for a long time period. Some of them also try to adapt them. So, mostly people find it harmful for their children.

On the other hand, there are also significant number of individuals who argue that these types of contents are beneficial because they aware the people, especially children about the bitter truth and explains how to deal with such circumstances which may enable them to do good if they ever get in the same situation.

From my perspective, I firmly believe that it is beneficial for people to be aware of such circumstances and also educate their offspring not to do such violence in their real life that can be harmful to them. While doing this, we can make our society and union more strong.

In conclusion, although some of the fictional violence portrayed on television is not favorable for the youngers. It also encourages individuals to be aware themselves and their children from these types of entertainments.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

You address both views and state your opinion, so the response is relevant to the task. The first body paragraph explains why fictional violence may affect children, and the second presents the opposing claim that it can prepare viewers for difficult situations. However, the discussion is only partly developed: the claim that such content is “beneficial” is not clearly distinguished from the idea that it can raise awareness, and the essay gives little explanation or concrete support for this view. Your position also shifts: the introduction says the advantages outweigh the drawbacks, while the conclusion mainly says viewers should be made aware and children educated. Clarify your reasoning and support each side with a specific example to make your response more complete.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The response has a clear overall arrangement: an introduction, separate paragraphs for the two views, your opinion, and a conclusion. “On the one hand” and “On the other hand” help signal the contrast, and the reader can follow the main line of discussion. Some connections are less clear or mechanical, however. For example, “So, mostly people find it harmful” follows the point about children copying actions, but the link between this example and the broader claim could be explained more fully. The final paragraph also repeats ideas about awareness without clearly resolving the contrast. Use more precise referencing and connect each example explicitly to the paragraph’s main point.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use enough topic-related vocabulary to communicate the main ideas, including “fictional violence,” “harmful,” “circumstances,” and “society.” There are also attempts at less common phrasing, such as “bitter truth,” but several choices are inaccurate or unnatural and make the argument less precise. For instance, “beneficial because it encourages violent behavior” contradicts the intended positive argument, while “adapt” is used where “imitate” or “copy” is meant. Phrases such as “the thing from where children adapt” and “aware themselves” are also awkward. Build a more reliable range of collocations for discussing media effects, learning, and behaviour, and check that each word expresses the intended meaning.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt a mix of simple and complex sentences, including clauses beginning “when,” “although,” and “because,” and most of the main ideas remain understandable. However, some sentence structures and agreement patterns are inaccurate. For example, “there are also significant number” needs a plural noun phrase, and “they aware the people” is missing a verb form. In “those actions remained in their minds,” the past tense does not fit the general claim; use a present-tense form. The conclusion begins with “although” but does not complete a balanced sentence, and the final punctuation separates it awkwardly from the next idea. Practise accurate clause construction and check agreement, verb forms, and sentence boundaries.
