Student answer (Band 5.5)

Whether violence media content exerts a negative influence on society remains a subject of intense debate. While many view fictional violence on television merely as a benigh from of entertainment, critics argue that it contributes directly to real world aggression. In my opinion, while adults can generally distinguish between fantasy and reality, fictional violence must be avoided. Fictional violence can be defined as the violence done in fictional movies or shows as well.

Fictional violence is harmful because it influences children to use violence.Children get influenced easily because of the lack of their understanding. It also showcases that evil is powerful and if you use more violence, the more powerful you will become which encourages people to get their work done. As seen in the recent news that some people tried to steal a heavily gaurded necklace from an auction house. After investigation, they confessed that the got the idea from a fictional television show.As seen above, Fictional violence not only promotes violence, it also give idea how they can steal and also replicate the scenes from shows or movies.

The fictional movies or TV shows also come with a disclaimer that these films or shows are "A" rated that is only foe adults. So that the children do not watch and influenced by it. And Fictional violence is not always to promote evil like in superhero movies,it is promoted to help people in need.Superheroes use it to help people.

In short, people can watch fictional movies or shows just like a source of entertainment.I think violence in fiction or reality is not accepted. Fictional violence promotes violence which disturbs the harmony between the people which is not acceptable at all. So,Fictional violence should not be promoted.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

You give a clear overall view that fictional violence should not be promoted, and you include relevant points about children copying behaviour and superhero stories being presented as helpful. However, the task asks you to discuss both views, and the argument that fictional violence is harmless entertainment receives little development: the brief point about superheroes does not explain why viewers might regard such content as harmless. Your own position also shifts somewhat, since you first say adults can distinguish fantasy from reality, then conclude that fictional violence should be avoided. The necklace example is relevant, but it is presented as a single news claim without enough explanation of how it supports your broader argument. Develop both sides more evenly and state a consistent position.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

The response has a recognisable structure, with an introduction, two body paragraphs and a conclusion, and the main topic remains clear. Some progression is present: the first body paragraph focuses on possible harm, while the next introduces ratings and a counterpoint about superheroes. However, the discussion does not develop in a fully logical sequence, and the second view is only briefly addressed. Linking phrases such as “As seen above” and repeated uses of “And” do not always show the relationship between ideas clearly. The conclusion also repeats the claim that violence promotes violence rather than drawing together the two views. Use clearer topic sentences, connect examples directly to claims, and make references such as “these films” unambiguous.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use some vocabulary suited to the topic, including “negative influence,” “real-world aggression,” “disclaimer,” and “harmony,” and the reader can generally understand your meaning. There are also attempts at more specific phrasing, such as “heavily guarded necklace” and “replicate the scenes.” However, the range is limited by repeated use of “fictional violence,” “promotes violence,” and “people,” while several word-choice and spelling errors reduce precision: “benigh,” “foe,” and “gaurded.” Some expressions are awkward, including “the violence done in fictional movies” and “get their work done.” Aim for more accurate collocations and vary repeated terms with context-appropriate alternatives, while checking spelling and word forms carefully.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt both simple and more complex sentence forms, including a contrast clause beginning “While many view…” and a conditional comparison about using more violence. Meaning is usually recoverable, but grammatical control is inconsistent. Examples include “it also give idea,” where the verb and noun forms are incorrect, and “the got the idea,” which has an incorrect pronoun. The sentence “the more powerful you will become” does not fit smoothly with the preceding “if you use more violence.” There are also run-on sentences and missing spaces after full stops, as in “debate. While” and “violence.Children.” Work on subject–verb agreement, articles and sentence boundaries, and revise complex sentences to ensure their clauses connect correctly.
