Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
You identify relevant extremes, including the peak in fatal injuries (95 in 2001–02), the highest serious-injury figure (476 in 2005–06), and the highest total (3,912 in 2004–05). However, the overview is too broad: saying all injuries rose overlooks fluctuations and the decline in fatal injuries after 2001–02; the table’s clearest overall feature is the substantial growth in slight injuries and totals, especially from 2003–04 to 2004–05. Some comparisons are also unclear, and the 18% increase is attached awkwardly to the fatal-injury peak. The response contains 147 words, below the 150-word minimum; the 20 words copied from the task prompt are excluded from the count. Add a clearer overview and more accurate trend comparisons.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction, an overview, and two paragraphs presenting selected figures. This gives the reader a basic route through the information. However, progression within the body is limited: the third paragraph moves from the fatal-injury peak to the percentage increase and then to the lowest figures without clearly signalling how these points relate. The final paragraph combines serious injuries, slight injuries and totals, so comparisons are compressed rather than developed. Linking phrases such as “On the contrary” do not express a clear contrast between the information that follows. Organise the details into clearer comparisons—for example, fatal injuries separately from serious injuries, slight injuries and totals—and use transitions that accurately show the relationship between points.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use some task-relevant vocabulary, including “fatal,” “serious,” “slight,” “percentage,” and “total,” and the reader can generally identify the categories being compared. There is also an attempt at more formal phrasing, such as “topped the list.” However, several choices are inaccurate or unnatural: “the amount of individuals” is unsuitable for counts, “proportionate increase” is not the right description for the table’s percentage increase, and “with total of 95 fatal injuries” is an awkward collocation. Spelling errors such as “occurance” and “injurys” also reduce control. Aim for precise, natural reporting language, such as “number of injuries,” “percentage increase,” and “recorded the highest figure,” and check spelling carefully.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt a range of sentence forms, including an overview sentence and longer comparisons, but control is inconsistent. Errors in agreement and sentence construction occur in “all the injuries has seen” and “With total of 95 fatal injuries … it has topped the list,” where the opening phrase does not connect smoothly to the main clause. The sentence beginning “While the year 1998/99…” is a fragment because “while” introduces a dependent clause without a complete main clause. Articles and prepositions are also often missing or awkward, as in “over a period of time” and “in the year 2001-2002.” These problems sometimes make relationships between figures difficult to follow. Practise complete, direct comparison sentences and check subject–verb agreement, clause boundaries, and article use.
