Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 150 words, which negatively impacts the task achievement score. While you have identified the main features and provided some comparisons, the analysis is somewhat superficial. You have selected key data points, but the report lacks a more comprehensive overview of the trends. For instance, the percentage increase data mentioned in the prompt is largely ignored in the body paragraphs, and the conclusion is slightly repetitive. To improve, ensure you fully explore all aspects of the prompt, including the percentage data, and provide a more detailed comparison between the categories to ensure the response is sufficiently developed and meets the length requirement.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The response is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. You use basic cohesive devices such as 'On the other hand' and 'Lastly' to transition between ideas. However, the progression of ideas is somewhat mechanical, and the paragraphing could be more sophisticated. The referencing is generally clear, but the overall flow feels a bit disjointed due to the brevity of the sentences. To reach a higher band, focus on using a wider range of cohesive devices to link sentences and paragraphs more fluidly, and ensure that the relationship between the data points is clearly articulated throughout the text.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

Your vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, but it lacks the precision and variety expected at higher levels. Phrases like 'folks hurt' and 'exceling the other two groups' are informal or misused in this context. You rely on simple descriptors and repetitive structures. To improve, incorporate more precise academic vocabulary related to data analysis, such as 'fluctuated,' 'peaked,' or 'dramatic increase.' Avoid informal language like 'folks' and ensure that your word choices are accurate and appropriate for a formal report. Expanding your range of synonyms will help you avoid repetition and demonstrate a better command of the language.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are several grammatical inaccuracies. For example, 'the fraction of folks hurt slightly dominated' is awkward, and 'during1999' contains a spacing error. There are also issues with article usage and prepositional phrases (e.g., 'the number of citizens having serious injuries'). While these errors do not completely impede communication, they occur frequently enough to affect the overall quality. To improve, focus on subject-verb agreement, correct article usage, and ensuring that your complex sentences are constructed accurately. Proofreading for minor slips and punctuation errors will also help improve your score.
