Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
The response addresses the task by summarizing the main features of the provided table. You successfully identified the trends for fatal, serious, and slight injuries and included relevant comparisons. However, the report lacks precision in some areas; for instance, the term 'average' is vague when describing the 2001-2002 period. Additionally, while you mention the percentage increase, the distinction between the categories could be clearer. To improve, ensure that all data points are accurately transcribed and that the overview provides a more comprehensive summary of the overall trends rather than just highlighting the highest and lowest points.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the information. You use some cohesive devices such as 'Overall,' 'Meanwhile,' 'Moreover,' and 'In addition' to link ideas. However, some transitions feel slightly mechanical, and there are issues with punctuation, such as missing spaces after commas (e.g., 'Overall, the'). The referencing is generally clear, but the flow between sentences could be improved by using a wider variety of linking words to show more sophisticated relationships between the data points.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'delineated,' 'fluctuations,' and 'dramatically.' However, there are several spelling errors ('tear' instead of 'year,' 'intge' instead of 'in the,' 'delineantes' instead of 'delineated,' 'flactuations' instead of 'fluctuations,' 'uprised' instead of 'rose'). These errors occasionally distract the reader. To reach a higher band, focus on using more precise terminology for data reporting and ensure that your spelling is accurate, as these errors limit the clarity of your report.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The response uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are frequent grammatical errors, particularly with verb forms and word choice (e.g., 'the fatal were about 49,' 'the gun and knife crime was average'). The use of articles and prepositions is also inconsistent. While these errors do not completely impede communication, they occur frequently enough to affect the overall fluency of the writing. Focusing on subject-verb agreement and correct tense usage will help improve your accuracy.
