Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
You have successfully identified the main trends and provided relevant data points to support your summary. You correctly highlighted the overall upward trend and the dominance of slight injuries. However, the task also required you to report the 'percentage increase' mentioned in the prompt, which you omitted entirely. Including this data would have provided a more comprehensive overview of the statistics. Additionally, ensure you clearly distinguish between the categories (gun vs. knife) if the data allows, or clarify if the figures represent a combined total. Your overview is clear, but adding the percentage change would elevate your score.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The response is logically organised into paragraphs, moving from an overview to specific data points. You use some cohesive devices like 'However' and 'In year 1998-1999' to guide the reader. However, the flow is occasionally hindered by mechanical phrasing, such as 'In year 1998-1999' (missing 'the') and 'Later in next coming years'. The transition between the general trend and the specific data could be smoother. To improve, focus on using a wider variety of linking words to connect your sentences more naturally rather than relying on simple chronological markers.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'illustrates', 'rapidly', and 'peaked'. However, there are several instances of awkward word choice and minor errors, such as 'initials years' instead of 'initial years' and 'decuse' (likely a typo for 'decreased'). You also repeat the phrase 'total number of cases' frequently. To reach a higher band, try to vary your vocabulary by using synonyms or more precise collocations, and pay closer attention to spelling and word forms to ensure your writing is more professional.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally distract the reader. Examples include 'illustrates number' (missing 'the'), 'numbers had rose' (incorrect tense/form; should be 'had risen'), and 'slight degree of injuries were' (subject-verb agreement error). While these errors do not impede communication, they are persistent throughout the text. To improve, focus on mastering subject-verb agreement and the correct use of articles ('the', 'a'). Practising the correct formation of past tenses will also help you achieve greater accuracy.
