Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
You have successfully identified the main trends and provided relevant data points to support your summary. You covered the fatal, serious, and slight injury categories and made appropriate comparisons regarding the percentage increases. However, your final sentence contains a factual error, as you state there was 'no record' for the 2006-2007 period, despite having just used that data in your previous sentences. This contradiction impacts the accuracy of your reporting. To reach a higher band, ensure that your summary of the data is internally consistent and that you clearly highlight the most significant differences between the categories throughout the entire period.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0
The essay is logically organized with a clear introduction, a body paragraph for details, and an overview. You use cohesive devices such as 'In addition', 'In contrast to', and 'Furthermore' to link your ideas effectively. However, the paragraphing is slightly disjointed; the overview is separated from the introduction by a line break, and the body paragraph is quite dense. While the progression of ideas is generally clear, the final sentence is confusing and disrupts the flow of the report. Improving the transition between sentences and ensuring a more standard paragraph structure would enhance the overall coherence.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'illustrated', 'surged', 'moderately', and 'accounted for'. There are some minor spelling errors, such as 'begining' instead of 'beginning'. While your word choice is generally appropriate for a report, it lacks the sophistication required for higher bands. You tend to rely on simple descriptors for trends. Incorporating more precise collocations and varied synonyms for 'increase' (e.g., 'escalated', 'witnessed a sharp rise') would help demonstrate a more flexible and precise command of the language.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, which is appropriate for this task. There are some grammatical slips, such as the awkward phrasing 'In contrast to fatal injuries that had the lowest increase', which is a sentence fragment. Additionally, there are minor punctuation issues, such as the spacing in '2006- 2007'. While these errors do not impede communication, they occur frequently enough to prevent a higher score. Focusing on sentence boundary control and ensuring that all complex sentences are grammatically complete will improve your accuracy.
