Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response attempts to address the task but fails to provide a clear overview or a logical summary of the data. Instead of identifying the main trends or making meaningful comparisons, the writing presents a fragmented list of specific figures. The information is often confusing, such as the mention of '194% rate' and '405% rate' without clearly linking these to the categories of injury. Furthermore, the conclusion introduces subjective commentary about the state's efforts to maintain security, which is not supported by the provided data and is irrelevant to an academic report. To improve, you must focus on grouping data logically and highlighting the most significant changes over the period.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The essay lacks a clear structure. The paragraphs are poorly organized, and the transition between sentences is often abrupt. The use of cohesive devices is mechanical and sometimes inaccurate, such as the misuse of 'But' at the start of a sentence and the awkward phrasing 'So, to conclude every point that have been stated'. The progression of ideas is difficult to follow because the data points are presented in a disjointed manner rather than being grouped by category or trend. Improving the use of linking words and ensuring each paragraph has a clear focus would significantly enhance the readability of your work.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is limited and repetitive, relying heavily on the words provided in the prompt. There are several instances of awkward phrasing and incorrect word choice, such as 'variable levels', 'fatal crime rate decrease gradully', and 'highest record'. The range of vocabulary is insufficient to demonstrate precision when describing statistical trends. To reach a higher band, you should incorporate a wider variety of verbs and nouns related to data analysis, such as 'fluctuated', 'peaked', 'significant increase', and 'downward trend', while ensuring they are used in the correct context.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
There are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text that occasionally impede communication. Examples include subject-verb agreement issues ('95 fatal injuries was recorded', '3424 slight injuries was recorded') and incorrect preposition usage ('despite of the increase'). The sentence structures are mostly simple, and attempts at more complex sentences are often marred by errors. Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly regarding the placement of commas and the capitalization of 'Gun and Knife Crime'. Focusing on basic subject-verb agreement and refining sentence construction will help improve your accuracy.
