Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response provides a basic overview of the data, but it fails to fully address the task requirements. While you identify the main trends, the description of the data is incomplete and lacks precision. For example, you mention the 2005-2006 period but do not provide a comprehensive comparison across the entire timeframe. The summary of percentage increases is present, but the analysis is superficial. To improve, ensure you select more key data points to support your observations and provide a more balanced comparison between the categories of injury throughout the period, rather than just listing figures.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The essay is organised into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the use of cohesive devices is often mechanical or inaccurate, such as 'where as' and 'In addition all the injuries have increased'. The transition between the overview and the body paragraphs is somewhat abrupt. While there is a logical progression from general trends to specific data, the lack of sophisticated linking words makes the flow feel disjointed. Improving the variety and accuracy of your cohesive devices will help the ideas connect more naturally.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task but lacks the range and precision required for a higher band. You rely on repetitive phrasing such as 'injuries were recorded' and 'injuries have increased'. There are also some awkward collocations and word choices, such as 'far by common' and 'gradually raised'. To reach a higher band, you should aim to use a wider range of synonyms and more precise academic vocabulary to describe trends, such as 'surged', 'fluctuated', or 'a significant rise'.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
There are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text that occasionally impede clarity. Examples include subject-verb agreement issues ('fatal injuries remains', 'slight injuries was recorded') and incorrect tense usage ('injuries were gradually raised'). The sentence structures are relatively simple, and attempts at more complex sentences often contain errors. To improve, focus on mastering basic subject-verb agreement and ensuring consistent tense usage when describing historical data. Proofreading for small errors like missing articles or incorrect prepositions will also help improve your score.
