Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response covers the main features of the data, such as the overall increase in injuries and the identification of specific years. However, the analysis is somewhat fragmented and lacks a clear overview of the trends. While you mention specific figures, the reporting is inconsistent; for instance, you describe the 2002-2006 period but omit the final year (2007) provided in the data. To reach a higher band, ensure you present a clear summary of the overall trend in the introduction and ensure all key data points are accurately represented without missing the final year of the period.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The essay is organised into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the progression of ideas. However, the use of cohesive devices is somewhat mechanical and repetitive (e.g., starting multiple paragraphs with 'From...'). The transition between the data points is occasionally abrupt, and the logical flow could be improved by using a wider variety of linking words to show relationships between the years and the types of injuries. Referencing is generally clear, but the overall structure feels more like a list of observations than a cohesive summary.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is adequate for the task but lacks precision and variety. You rely on basic descriptors like 'harmed' and 'injured' repeatedly. There are also some awkward collocations, such as 'fatal condition of a human being' and 'numbers bumped drastically'. To improve, try to use more academic terminology related to data reporting, such as 'fluctuated', 'peaked', or 'a significant rise'. Spelling is generally accurate, but the range of vocabulary is limited, which prevents the response from achieving a higher score in this criterion.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The response contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors. For example, 'The injuries... has been given' is a subject-verb agreement error, and 'total nuber' contains a spelling mistake. There are also issues with punctuation and phrasing, such as 'from which most of them were slightly injured'. While these errors do not completely impede communication, they are frequent enough to affect the overall fluency. Focusing on subject-verb agreement and more precise sentence construction will help improve your score.
