Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response covers the main features of the data, such as the trends for fatal, serious, and slight injuries, and includes the percentage increases. However, the analysis is somewhat superficial. You mention that 'data for the serious and the slight cases were not show in the table,' which is factually incorrect as the table clearly provides these figures. Additionally, the overview is weak; it merely states that the percentage increased without highlighting the significant disparity between the categories. To reach a higher band, ensure you accurately interpret all provided data points and provide a more insightful summary of the overall trends rather than just listing numbers.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organised into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the flow between sentences is often mechanical. For example, the transition 'Talking about the percentage...' is informal and lacks sophistication. The use of cohesive devices is limited, and some references are unclear, such as the confusion regarding which data was present in the table. Improving the use of linking words (e.g., 'consequently,' 'in contrast,' 'furthermore') would help create a smoother progression of ideas and better connect the data points to your analysis.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task but lacks precision and variety. You rely on basic descriptors like 'highest,' 'lowest,' and 'peak.' Phrases such as 'done by gun and knife' are unnatural; 'resulting from gun and knife crime' would be more appropriate. There are also some awkward phrasings, such as 'accounted for all time highest.' To improve, try to incorporate more academic collocations and synonyms for trends, such as 'witnessed a significant surge' or 'experienced a downward trajectory,' rather than repeating simple verbs.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The response contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. For instance, 'the percentage of cases increasing througout the years' is a fragment, and 'the the trend fluctuated' contains a repetition error. There are also issues with article usage and verb tense consistency (e.g., 'were not show' instead of 'were not shown'). While the meaning is generally understandable, the frequency of these errors prevents the writing from reaching a higher band. Focus on proofreading for subject-verb agreement and correct verb forms.
