Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 4.0
The response is significantly under the 150-word minimum requirement, which severely impacts the ability to cover all parts of the task. While the introduction attempts to paraphrase the prompt, the response fails to provide a summary of the main features or make meaningful comparisons. The writing stops abruptly after only 70 words, meaning the data is not adequately reported or analysed. To improve, you must ensure you provide a full overview of the data trends and include specific supporting figures for all categories mentioned in the table.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 4.0
The response is too short to demonstrate a coherent structure or effective paragraphing. While there is a basic attempt at an introduction and an overview, the lack of a body paragraph prevents the development of ideas. Cohesive devices are minimal, and the progression of information is interrupted by the premature ending of the text. To achieve a higher score, you need to structure your response with a clear introduction, a distinct overview, and at least two body paragraphs that group data logically.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary used is quite basic and repetitive, such as the repeated use of 'injuries' and 'recorded'. There are also inaccuracies in word choice, such as 'tiny wounds' to describe 'slight injuries', which is not appropriate for an academic report. The range of vocabulary is insufficient to demonstrate flexibility or precision. To improve, focus on using more precise terminology related to statistical data, such as 'fluctuated', 'peaked', or 'significant increase', and avoid informal or imprecise descriptors.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The response contains several grammatical errors, including missing articles ('the year 1998') and punctuation issues (missing spaces after commas). The sentence structures are simple, and there is a lack of complex grammatical forms. The error in 'occured' (spelling) and the awkward phrasing 'the least injuries recorded was fatal injuries' demonstrate a lack of control over basic sentence construction. To improve, focus on subject-verb agreement and ensure that you proofread for basic spelling and punctuation errors.
