Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 150 words, which significantly impacts the score. While you have identified some main features, the analysis is superficial and lacks a comprehensive comparison of the data provided in the table. You have listed some specific figures for 1998-1999 but failed to adequately describe the trends over the full ten-year period or highlight the percentage increases mentioned in the prompt. To improve, ensure you cover all parts of the task, including the percentage data, and provide a more thorough analysis of the trends rather than just listing isolated data points.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The response is divided into sections, but the structure is not fully developed. The use of cohesive devices is very limited, with basic transitions like 'However' and 'While' used, but the overall flow between sentences is disjointed. Paragraphing is present but lacks the sophistication expected for an academic report. The progression of ideas is somewhat repetitive, and the lack of clear logical links between the introduction, overview, and body makes the text feel like a collection of sentences rather than a cohesive summary. Improving the use of linking words and ensuring each paragraph has a clear focus would enhance the coherence.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is quite basic and repetitive. You frequently use the word 'injuries' and 'number' without varying your language. There is little attempt to use less common or academic vocabulary to describe trends (e.g., 'fluctuated', 'peaked', 'remained stable', 'significant rise'). Phrases like 'the figure of total number of injuries' are clunky and unnatural. To achieve a higher band, you should aim to use a wider range of synonyms and collocations related to data reporting, such as 'the incidence of', 'a steady climb', or 'a marginal decrease'.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
There are frequent errors in punctuation, capitalization, and sentence structure. For example, sentences often start with lowercase letters, and there is a lack of proper sentence boundaries (e.g., '1998 to 2007.the table'). The range of grammatical structures is limited, relying mostly on simple sentences. There are also errors in subject-verb agreement, such as 'the number of slight injuries increase' instead of 'increased'. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence construction, including correct capitalization and tense consistency, before attempting more complex structures.
