Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response covers the main features of the data, such as the overall trends and the percentage increases. However, the interpretation of the data is significantly flawed. For instance, you state that there were no serious or slight injuries in 2006-2007, which contradicts the provided table. Additionally, the description of the 1998-1999 and 2007 figures is confusing and mathematically inaccurate based on the provided data. While you attempt to select and report key features, the misinterpretation of the statistics prevents a clear and accurate summary of the information. To improve, ensure you carefully cross-reference your written statements with the specific figures in the table.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The response is organized into paragraphs, but the logical progression is hindered by the inaccurate data reporting. Cohesive devices such as 'However', 'Also', and 'Furthermore' are used, but they are sometimes placed awkwardly or do not effectively link the ideas. The referencing is occasionally unclear, particularly when discussing the injury categories. The flow between sentences is somewhat mechanical, and the lack of clarity in the data presentation makes it difficult for the reader to follow the intended comparison. Improving the logical flow and ensuring that each paragraph has a clear focus would enhance the coherence of your writing.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is generally limited and repetitive. You rely on basic phrasing such as 'gives data on', 'highest in the list', and 'lowest in the list'. There are also issues with word choice and collocation, such as 'crime with using gun and knife' instead of 'gun and knife crime' and 'fatal injuries are happen' instead of 'fatal injuries occurred'. While the vocabulary is sufficient to convey the basic topic, it lacks the precision and range required for a higher band score. You should aim to use more varied reporting verbs and precise terminology related to statistical trends.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The response contains a mix of simple and some attempted complex structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors. Examples include 'in different type of injuries' (should be 'types'), 'fatal injuries are happen' (incorrect verb tense/passive voice), and 'in compare to' (should be 'compared to'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, with unnecessary spaces before commas and periods. These errors are frequent and occasionally impede the clarity of the information provided. To improve, focus on mastering basic subject-verb agreement, correct tense usage, and standard punctuation rules to ensure your sentences are grammatically sound.
