Great Britain - Gun and Knife Crime statistics - 1998-2007
Student answer (Band 5.0)
Nowadays a large number of population is involved in crime. There method of crime varies from person to person. The criminals use different types of weapons such as gun and knife etc. to accomplish one's task. Due to which some injuries are fatal, some slight and some become serious. Here we will discuss number of fatal, serious and slight injuries resulting from gun and knife crime in Great Britain from 1998 to 2007.
If we look at year 1998 to 1999, total numbers of crime took place in that year were 864, and due to these crimes slight injuries also happened, some injuries were serious and some were fatal. But the main point to notice is that instead of controlling the crimes, the number of crimes increased with the passage of years according to the given information.
Crime rate increased from 1999 to 2000 and so on up to 2007 as shown in the graph. Every year some percentage of crimes increased. If we compare all these years, we saw that 18% fatal injuries, 194% serious injuries, 405% slight injuries increased due to crime rate increased.
The main focus is that crimes increased day by day same as little drops of water make mighty ocean. Crime also happened and people get injured too .So it should be stop by taking some measures otherwise it become more and more worse with the passage of time.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 4.0
The response fails to adequately report the data provided in the table. While it mentions the percentage increases, it lacks a clear overview and fails to present the specific figures for the different categories (fatal, serious, slight) in a structured way. The student focuses on general commentary about crime rather than providing a factual summary of the statistics. The task requires selecting and reporting main features, but the response is too vague and relies on subjective statements like 'crimes increased day by day' rather than objective data analysis. Consequently, the key information is not clearly highlighted or compared.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The essay is organized into paragraphs, but the progression of ideas is weak. The introduction is somewhat irrelevant to the data provided, and the body paragraphs lack logical flow. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'If we look at' and 'The main focus is', but they are often used in a mechanical or repetitive way. The referencing is sometimes unclear, and the transition between the general introduction and the specific data analysis is abrupt. The final paragraph introduces personal opinion rather than summarizing the data, which disrupts the coherence of the report.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is limited and repetitive. Phrases like 'a large number of population' and 'accomplish one's task' are unnatural or imprecise. The student struggles to use academic terminology appropriate for describing statistical trends, relying on basic descriptors like 'increased' repeatedly. There is no attempt to use more sophisticated vocabulary to describe the data (e.g., 'surged', 'fluctuated', 'dramatic rise'). While the meaning is generally conveyed, the lack of range and the reliance on simple, sometimes inaccurate word choices prevent the response from reaching a higher band.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The response contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent errors in grammar and punctuation. Examples include 'There method of crime' (incorrect pronoun), 'Due to which some injuries are fatal' (sentence fragment), and 'it should be stop' (passive voice error). Subject-verb agreement and article usage are inconsistent throughout the text. While the errors do not completely impede communication, they are frequent enough to be distracting and demonstrate a lack of control over more complex grammatical structures.
