Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response covers all parts of the task by identifying the main trends and providing relevant data. You successfully highlighted the overall increase in injuries and contrasted the percentage growth between fatal and slight injuries. However, the report could be improved by better grouping of data. For instance, the paragraphing is slightly disjointed, and some data points are presented in a repetitive list-like manner. To reach a higher band, ensure that comparisons are more integrated rather than just stating numbers sequentially. The overview is clear, but the analysis of the percentage increase could be more sophisticated by linking it directly to the raw data trends.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is logically organized with a clear introduction, overview, and body paragraphs. You use cohesive devices such as 'However', 'Similarly', and 'In contrast' to signal shifts in the argument. However, the flow between sentences is sometimes mechanical, and the use of 'On the other hand' is repetitive, appearing twice in the same paragraph. Paragraphing is present, but the transition between the description of raw numbers and the percentage analysis could be smoother. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring that each paragraph has a clear thematic focus would enhance the overall coherence.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'fluctuated', 'surged', and 'accounted for' appropriately. There are some minor inaccuracies, such as 'increase of percentage' instead of 'percentage increase'. While you successfully use topic-specific vocabulary, the range is somewhat limited, and you rely on basic descriptors for trends. To improve, try to incorporate more precise collocations and avoid repeating the same phrases. The vocabulary is sufficient to convey the meaning clearly, but it lacks the sophistication required for a higher band score.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, which is appropriate for this task. Most sentences are clear, and errors in grammar—such as 'it kept increasing' (referring to plural 'fatal injuries')—do not impede communication. There are some minor issues with subject-verb agreement and punctuation, such as the phrasing 'the fatal injuries were 58 only in 2006-2007'. To achieve a higher score, aim for more varied complex sentence structures and ensure consistent subject-verb agreement throughout the text. Overall, the control of grammar is solid, with errors being infrequent and non-systematic.
