Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 4.0
The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 150 words, reaching only 94 words. Consequently, the response is significantly underdeveloped. While you have identified some key figures, such as the percentage increases for different injury types, you have not provided a comprehensive overview of the data. The task requires a more detailed selection and reporting of main features, including a clearer comparison between the categories over the ten-year period. Because the response is substantially under-length, it cannot fully address all parts of the task, leading to a lower band score.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The response is organized into two short paragraphs, which is insufficient for a formal report. While there is a basic attempt at an introduction and an overview, the lack of length prevents the development of a logical progression of ideas. Cohesive devices are used in a very limited and mechanical way, such as 'Overall' and 'However'. To improve, you should aim to group data more effectively and use a wider range of linking words to connect your observations about the trends and comparisons.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary used is adequate for the task but remains quite basic and repetitive. Phrases like 'the trend shows' and 'there has been' are functional but lack the sophistication expected at higher bands. You have correctly used terms like 'fatal', 'serious', and 'slight injuries', but there is little attempt to use a wider range of synonyms or more precise descriptive language to characterize the trends (e.g., 'fluctuated', 'peaked', or 'remained constant'). Expanding your range of reporting verbs and adverbs would significantly improve your score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The grammar is generally clear, and the sentences are mostly error-free, which is a positive aspect. However, the range of structures is very limited. You rely heavily on simple sentence patterns. To achieve a higher band, you need to incorporate a greater variety of complex structures, such as relative clauses or passive voice constructions, to describe the data more fluently. There are no major errors that impede communication, but the lack of structural complexity limits the potential for a higher score.
