Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response covers the main features of the data, including the overall trends and specific figures for fatal, serious, and slight injuries. You successfully identified the significant growth in slight injuries and total crimes. However, the report lacks a clear, cohesive overview of the data trends in the introduction, and some comparisons could be more analytical. For instance, while you mention the peak in fatal injuries in 2001, you could have contrasted this more effectively with the overall decline by 2007. The data is generally accurate, but ensure that all trends are clearly linked to the provided figures to fully satisfy the requirements of the task.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The response is logically organized into paragraphs, with an introduction, an overview, and two body paragraphs focusing on percentages and raw numbers respectively. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'Overall', 'Similarly', and 'While', which help guide the reader. However, some transitions feel slightly mechanical, and the referencing could be smoother. For example, the sentence 'total crime is also increased' lacks a proper cohesive link to the previous sentence. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring that each paragraph has a clear thematic focus would help elevate the score in this criterion.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'demonstrates', 'statistics', 'significant increase', and 'fourfold'. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'reached at 405%' (should be 'reached 405%') and 'fatal injuries were increased' (should be 'fatal injuries increased'). To reach a higher band, try to incorporate more precise academic vocabulary and ensure that your verb forms are used correctly in context. The repetition of 'increased' throughout the text also limits the sophistication of your lexical range.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The response contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are several grammatical errors that occur throughout the text. Examples include subject-verb agreement issues ('total crime is also increased' instead of 'total crime also increased') and missing articles ('in 05/06' instead of 'in 2005/06'). Additionally, there are punctuation errors, such as the lack of capitalization at the start of sentences and inconsistent spacing. Focusing on proofreading for basic tense consistency and article usage will significantly improve your accuracy.
