Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response covers the main features of the table, including the trends for fatal, serious, and slight injuries. However, the analysis is somewhat superficial and lacks a clear, cohesive overview. While you identified the highest and lowest categories, the description of the data is occasionally confusing, particularly in the final paragraph where the figures for total injuries are presented in a disjointed manner. To improve, ensure that you clearly group data points and provide a more structured comparison between the categories rather than listing isolated figures. The summary of the percentage increases is also slightly unclear, as the relationship between the raw numbers and the percentages is not fully articulated.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The essay is organised into paragraphs, but the logical progression between sentences is often weak. The use of cohesive devices is limited and sometimes mechanical, such as the repetitive use of 'while' and 'whereas'. Referencing is occasionally unclear, making it difficult for the reader to follow the comparison of data across different time periods. For example, the final paragraph lacks a clear link to the previous information, and the transition between the data points is abrupt. Improving the use of linking words and ensuring each paragraph has a clear topic sentence would significantly enhance the flow of your writing.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task but lacks precision and variety. You rely on basic terms like 'higher', 'lowest', and 'cases' repeatedly. There are also some errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'reprsent a significant proportion rise' instead of 'represents a significant percentage increase' and 'era of 2006 to 2007' which is not the standard way to refer to a specific year range. To reach a higher band, try to incorporate more varied vocabulary related to data description, such as 'fluctuated', 'peaked', 'witnessed a decline', or 'substantial growth'.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
There is a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but the accuracy is inconsistent. You have frequent errors in subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'slight injuries has the higher rate', 'Fatal injury face a higher cases') and article usage. Punctuation is also problematic, with missing commas and inconsistent capitalisation. While the meaning is generally clear, these persistent errors occasionally impede the flow of the text. Focus on proofreading for basic grammatical agreement and ensuring that your sentence structures are correctly punctuated to improve the overall clarity and professionalism of your writing.
