Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0

You have successfully identified the main features of the data and provided a clear overview. You selected relevant data points to support your descriptions, such as the peak figures for slight injuries and the contrasting trend for fatal injuries. The comparison of percentage increases is well-integrated and adds depth to your analysis. To reach a higher band, ensure that all parts of the prompt are fully addressed; your introductory sentence is incomplete, as it cuts off before stating the end year. Always double-check that your opening statement provides a complete summary of the scope of the data provided in the prompt.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.5

The response is logically organized, with a clear introduction, an overview, and body paragraphs that group information effectively. You use cohesive devices such as 'whereas', 'similarly', and 'although' to link ideas and show relationships between the data points. The progression of information is smooth, moving from the general trend to specific details. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the overview from the supporting data. To improve, ensure that your referencing is precise and that you avoid minor mechanical errors in sentence structure that can occasionally disrupt the flow.

Lexical Resource — Band 7.0

You demonstrate a sufficient range of vocabulary to convey information with precision. Phrases like 'experienced the largest overall increase', 'recorded the greatest percentage increase', and 'followed a different pattern' are used effectively. You also use numerical data well to support your points. There is a minor error in the first sentence where 'caused Gun and knife crime' should be 'caused by gun and knife crime'. To achieve a higher score, try to incorporate a slightly wider range of less common lexical items related to statistical trends, such as 'fluctuated', 'surged', or 'marginal'.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 7.0

You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures effectively. The use of subordinate clauses (e.g., 'Although the figure almost doubled...') shows good control over complex grammar. Most of your sentences are error-free, and the punctuation is generally accurate. However, there is a grammatical slip in the opening sentence where the preposition 'by' is missing before 'gun and knife crime'. Additionally, ensure that your sentences are complete; the incomplete sentence in the introduction is a notable error. Overall, your control of grammar is strong and does not impede communication.
