Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response covers the main features of the data, such as the trends for fatal, serious, and slight injuries. However, the analysis is hampered by significant inaccuracies in interpreting the data. For instance, you state that there were no crimes recorded in the last year for serious and slight injuries, which contradicts the provided table. Additionally, the description of the 'percentage increase' is missing, as you only focused on the raw numbers. To improve, ensure you carefully cross-reference your statements with the visual data and include all aspects of the prompt, such as the percentage increase column, to provide a more comprehensive summary.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The essay is organised into logical paragraphs, with an introduction, an overview, and body paragraphs. However, the use of cohesive devices is somewhat mechanical and occasionally repetitive, such as the frequent use of 'It is evident that' and 'It is clear that'. Furthermore, the logical progression is hindered by the factual errors mentioned in the task achievement section, which makes the overall argument difficult to follow. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring that the sequence of information is accurate will help improve the flow and coherence of your writing.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The range of vocabulary is adequate for the task but lacks precision. You use terms like 'amount of... injuries' and 'proportion rise', which are not entirely natural in this context. There are also several spelling errors, such as 'Britian', 'infromation', and 'propotion'. To reach a higher band, focus on using more precise collocations, such as 'number of injuries' or 'percentage increase', and ensure you proofread your work to eliminate basic spelling mistakes. Expanding your vocabulary to include more academic synonyms for 'rise' and 'fall' would also be beneficial.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The response uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. For example, 'The table demonstrate' should be 'The table demonstrates', and 'in result of' should be 'as a result of'. There are also issues with article usage and prepositional phrases. While the meaning is generally clear, the frequency of these errors suggests a need for more careful attention to subject-verb agreement and basic sentence construction. Focusing on these foundational elements will significantly improve the accuracy of your writing.
