Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
You have successfully identified the main trends and provided a clear overview of the data. You selected relevant figures to support your points, such as the peak in fatal injuries in 2001-2002 and the significant rise in slight injuries. However, the task also required you to report the 'percentage increase' mentioned in the prompt, which you omitted entirely. Including these percentages would have provided a more comprehensive summary of the data provided in the table. Despite this omission, the key features are well-highlighted and the comparison between categories is clear.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0
The response is logically organized with a clear introduction, an overview, and two body paragraphs focusing on specific data points. You use cohesive devices such as 'Furthermore', 'In 1998-1999', and 'Consequently' to link your ideas effectively. The progression of information is easy to follow, moving from a general summary to specific details. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the different categories of injuries, which helps the reader navigate the information. The structure is coherent and supports the overall purpose of the report.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
You demonstrate a good range of vocabulary suitable for describing statistical trends, such as 'ensuing', 'fluctuating', 'escalated', and 'substantially'. Your word choice is generally precise and contributes to a formal, academic tone. There are no significant spelling or word-choice errors that impede communication. While the vocabulary is effective, incorporating a few more sophisticated collocations or topic-specific terms related to crime statistics could elevate the response further. Overall, the lexical range is sufficient to convey the information clearly and accurately.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 7.0
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures effectively. For example, the use of participial phrases like 'giving a total of 864 cases' and 'before falling slightly' shows good control over sentence complexity. Most of your sentences are error-free, and your control over tense and punctuation is strong. There are no major grammatical errors that cause confusion. To reach a higher band, you could experiment with a wider variety of complex structures, such as passive voice constructions or more varied subordinate clauses, to demonstrate even greater flexibility.
