Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
The response covers all parts of the task, providing a clear overview and selecting key data points to illustrate trends. You successfully identified the main features, such as the overall increase in injuries and the specific growth percentages for serious and slight injuries. However, there is a minor inconsistency in the data reporting: you state the total number of injuries rose to 3281, but the final year total in the table is 3821. Accuracy in data transcription is vital for a higher band. Overall, the response is well-structured and addresses the prompt effectively.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0
The essay is logically organized into clear paragraphs, with an introduction, an overview, and two body paragraphs focusing on specific data. Cohesive devices such as 'Overall', 'In 1998-1999', 'However', and 'Consequently' are used effectively to guide the reader through the information. The progression of ideas is smooth, moving from general trends to specific figures. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the overview from the detailed analysis, which helps maintain a clear structure throughout the response.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You demonstrate a sufficient range of vocabulary to convey information with precision, using terms like 'considerably', 'substantial growth', 'fluctuating', and 'quadrupled'. There are some minor spelling errors, such as 'Srious' instead of 'Serious' and 'represed' instead of 'represented'. While these do not impede communication, they prevent the response from reaching the highest bands. The use of vocabulary is generally appropriate for an academic report, and you show a good ability to describe trends and changes in data.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, such as 'Fatal injuries reached a peak of 95 in 2001-2002, before fluctuating and eventually falling'. There are some recurring grammatical errors, such as subject-verb agreement issues ('This table illustrate', 'It also show') and minor punctuation slips. While these errors are noticeable, they do not impede the overall meaning of the report. To improve, focus on proofreading for basic subject-verb agreement and ensuring consistent verb tense usage when describing historical data.
