Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.5
The response effectively covers all requirements of the task. You have provided a clear overview of the trends and successfully selected key data points to support your summary. The comparison between the three categories of injury is well-handled, and the inclusion of the percentage increases adds depth to the analysis. You have accurately identified the main features, such as the overall rise in injuries and the specific growth in slight injuries. The information is presented logically, and the data is used correctly to illustrate the points made. This is a comprehensive and well-structured response that fully addresses the prompt.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.5
The response is logically organized with a clear progression of ideas. Each paragraph has a distinct focus: the introduction and overview, the initial data trends, and the final developments. You have used a range of cohesive devices effectively, such as 'Overall,' 'In 1998–1999,' 'By 2003–2004,' and 'However,' which help guide the reader through the data. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate different stages of the analysis. The flow between sentences is smooth, and the referencing is clear throughout the text, making the information very easy to follow.
Lexical Resource — Band 7.0
You have demonstrated a good range of vocabulary appropriate for an academic report. Phrases such as 'sustained fatal, serious and slight injuries,' 'accounting for the largest proportion,' and 'dramatic growth' show a good level of precision. The vocabulary is used naturally and accurately to describe the trends in the data. While the range is sufficient and effective, incorporating a few more sophisticated synonyms for 'increased' or 'rose' (such as 'surged' or 'escalated') could further enhance the lexical variety. Overall, the language is precise and contributes to a professional tone.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 7.5
The response displays a high level of grammatical control. You have used a variety of complex sentence structures, such as 'The table illustrates the number of people who sustained...' and 'Slight injuries increased from... to..., before declining slightly to...'. The punctuation is accurate, and there are very few errors. The majority of your sentences are error-free, and the few minor slips do not impede communication at all. Your control over tense usage and numerical data presentation is consistent and reliable, which is essential for this type of task.
