Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The response attempts to summarize the data, but it fails to accurately report the key features. The description of the trends is often confusing or factually inconsistent with the provided data (e.g., claiming 'other types of injuries observed 0 cases' in the final year, which is not supported by the table). While you identified the categories, the analysis lacks precision in comparing the figures over the decade. To improve, focus on selecting the most significant data points—such as the peak years or the overall percentage changes—rather than listing individual years in a way that obscures the main trends. Ensure your summary accurately reflects the data presented in the visual aid.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay is organized into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the use of cohesive devices is often mechanical or misused. For example, 'In addition to' is used incorrectly as a sentence starter, and 'In the end' is not an appropriate way to introduce a concluding summary in an academic report. The progression of ideas is sometimes disjointed, particularly when moving between the years and the categories of injury. To reach a higher band, focus on using a wider variety of linking words more naturally and ensure that each paragraph has a clear, logical focus that contributes to the overall summary.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary is somewhat limited and repetitive. You frequently use basic phrases like 'the number of crimes' and 'observed'. There are also issues with word choice and collocation, such as 'notified in serious type of injury' and 'fatal injury cross 90'. These errors occasionally make the meaning slightly unclear. To improve, try to incorporate more precise academic vocabulary related to data description, such as 'fluctuated', 'peaked', 'remained stable', or 'a significant rise'. Expanding your range of synonyms for 'increase' and 'decrease' will also help demonstrate a more flexible command of the language.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The response contains a mix of simple and some complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that affect the flow. Issues include incorrect verb tenses (e.g., 'the fatal injury cross 90'), missing articles, and awkward phrasing (e.g., 'the total amount of increases was noticed'). Punctuation is generally functional, but the sentence construction often feels unnatural. To improve, focus on subject-verb agreement and the correct use of passive voice, which is essential for describing data. Reviewing basic sentence patterns will help you reduce the frequency of errors and improve the overall clarity of your writing.
