Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 4.0

The response attempts to address the task but fails to provide a clear or accurate summary of the data. The main features are not effectively highlighted, and the description of the trends is often confusing or factually inconsistent with the provided table. For example, the claim that 'fatal was the most common injury' is incorrect, as the data shows slight injuries were significantly higher. Furthermore, the reporting of figures is disjointed and lacks a logical structure, making it difficult for the reader to grasp the overall trends in gun and knife crime. The response lacks a clear overview, which is essential for Task 1.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 4.0

The essay lacks a logical progression of ideas. While there are paragraph breaks, the internal structure of the paragraphs is weak. Cohesive devices are used in a mechanical and often incorrect way, such as 'On the other hand' and 'moreover', which do not logically connect the preceding and following sentences. The referencing is often unclear, and the flow of information is disjointed, which hinders the reader's ability to follow the argument or the data presentation. The lack of clear signposting makes the response difficult to navigate.

Lexical Resource — Band 4.0

The range of vocabulary is very limited and often inappropriate for an academic report. There is significant repetition of basic words like 'increased', 'total', and 'injury'. The student struggles with word choice and collocation, such as 'happening from gun and knife crime' instead of 'resulting from' or 'caused by'. There are also instances where the vocabulary used does not accurately reflect the data, such as 'no difference was made into these years', which is vague and imprecise. The vocabulary is insufficient to convey the information clearly.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 4.0

The response contains frequent grammatical errors that often impede communication. There are issues with verb tenses ('did rose', 'didnt happened'), sentence structure, and preposition usage. Many sentences are fragmented or run-on, making them difficult to parse. For example, 'fatal injury in 1998 to 1999 was less upto 49 whereas serious and slight was increased within the time' is grammatically incorrect and confusing. The control of complex structures is very limited, and errors are present in almost every sentence, which significantly affects the clarity of the writing.
