The table presents statistics on fatal, serious and slight injuries caused by gun and knife crime in Great Britain between 1998 and 2007.

Overall, the total number of injuries increased considerably during the period for which complete data are available. Slight injuries accounted for the largest proportion of cases, while fatal injuries were the least common. Although the number of fatal injuries fluctuated, serious and slight injuries generally showed an upward trend.

In 1998–1999, there were 864 injuries in total, including 49 fatal, 162 serious and 653 slight cases. Over the following years, the total rose steadily, reaching 1,877 in 2001–2002. It then increased further to 2,179 in 2002–2003 and 2,367 in 2003–2004.

The most substantial increase occurred between 2003–2004 and 2004–2005, when the total number of injuries climbed from 2,367 to 3,912. This was mainly due to a sharp rise in slight injuries, from 1,862 to 3,424. The total then fell slightly to 3,821 in 2005–2006, although serious injuries reached their highest recorded figure of 476.

Fatal injuries peaked at 95 in 2001–2002 before declining to 49 in 2005–2006. For 2006–2007, only the fatal-injury figure is provided, at 58, so a total cannot be calculated.
