Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response covers the main features of the data, including the trends for fatal, serious, and slight injuries. However, there are significant inaccuracies in the data reporting. For example, you state that slight injuries peaked at 3296 in 2005-2006 and then declined to 3296 in 2006-2007, which is contradictory. Furthermore, the percentage increase for slight injuries is stated as 405%, but the data provided in the prompt (if analyzed correctly) would show different figures. The analysis of the fatal injuries trend is also confusing, as you describe a 'steady increase' while simultaneously noting a 'fluctuating trend'. To improve, ensure that the data points cited are accurate and that your descriptions of trends align with the actual numbers provided in the table.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, with an introduction, an overview, and body paragraphs focusing on specific categories. Cohesive devices such as 'Furthermore', 'In contrast', and 'Overall' are used to link ideas. However, the progression of ideas is sometimes hindered by the inaccurate data reporting mentioned in the task achievement section. Additionally, some referencing is unclear, such as the phrase 'compared to the others' which lacks specific clarity. The paragraphing is appropriate, but the internal flow within the paragraphs could be improved by ensuring that the transition between data points is smoother and more logical.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The range of vocabulary is adequate for the task, but there is a tendency to use imprecise or repetitive terminology. For instance, 'deadly, serious and mild wounds' and 'fatal damages' are used where 'fatal, serious, and slight injuries' would be more appropriate in a statistical context. There are also some awkward collocations, such as 'slight harms' and 'fatal damages'. While the vocabulary is sufficient to convey the general meaning, it lacks the precision and sophistication required for a higher band score. Expanding your repertoire of reporting verbs and statistical terminology would be beneficial.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The response uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. However, there are several grammatical errors that occur throughout the text. Examples include 'their remains' (should be 'there remains'), 'peaked at a number 3296' (missing preposition), and 'throughtout' (spelling error). Additionally, there are issues with subject-verb agreement and punctuation, such as the missing space after the period in '2006-2007.It gained'. While these errors do not completely impede communication, they are frequent enough to affect the overall clarity and professional tone of the writing. Focusing on proofreading for basic grammatical accuracy would significantly improve your score.
