Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response covers the main features of the table, including the trends for fatal, serious, and slight injuries. However, the data reporting is inconsistent and contains inaccuracies. For instance, you mention 3424 injuries in 2006, but the table shows 3424 for 2005. Furthermore, the statement regarding the lack of data for 2006 and 2007 is incorrect, as the table provides figures for these years. While you identify the general upward trend, the misinterpretation of the provided data points prevents a higher score. To improve, ensure you carefully cross-reference your summary with the specific figures provided in the prompt.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is organised into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. You use some cohesive devices such as 'however' and 'overall', but the flow is occasionally disrupted by awkward phrasing and mechanical transitions. The progression of ideas is generally logical, moving from an overview to specific data points. However, the referencing is sometimes unclear, and the connection between the overview and the body paragraphs could be smoother. To improve, focus on using a wider variety of linking words and ensure that each paragraph has a clear, singular focus.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary is adequate for the task but lacks precision and variety. You use basic terms like 'happned' (spelling error) and 'went little down'. There are also issues with word choice, such as 'inregularities' and 'total crime', which do not accurately reflect the data provided. While the meaning is generally clear, the range is limited, and there are noticeable errors in spelling and collocation that occasionally hinder the professional tone of the report. Expanding your range of reporting verbs and nouns related to statistical trends would be beneficial.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The response uses a mix of simple and some complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors throughout. Examples include 'different degree of injuries happned' (should be 'degrees of injuries happened'), 'thought most of these crime led' (should be 'though most of these crimes led'), and 'it went little down'. Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with spacing around commas and periods. While these errors do not completely impede communication, they are frequent enough to distract the reader and indicate a lack of control over complex structures.
