Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 150 words, which significantly impacts the ability to fully develop the task. While you have identified the main categories (fatal, serious, slight), the analysis of the data is incomplete and lacks precision. For example, you mention 'slight injuries 653' but do not specify the year or the unit of measurement clearly. Furthermore, the summary of the data is fragmented, and the final sentence is incomplete, leaving the reader without a clear conclusion or a comprehensive overview of the trends. To improve, ensure you cover all data points mentioned in the prompt and provide a more detailed comparison of the trends over the decade.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay is organised into paragraphs, which is a positive start. However, the logical progression of ideas is hindered by the lack of cohesive devices. Transitions between sentences are often abrupt or missing, making the text feel like a list of observations rather than a cohesive report. For instance, the jump from discussing slight injuries to serious injuries lacks a smooth logical bridge. Additionally, the referencing is sometimes unclear, and the final sentence is cut off, which disrupts the overall flow and coherence of the response.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary used is somewhat limited and repetitive. You rely on basic verbs like 'increased' and 'found' throughout the text. There are also issues with word choice and collocation, such as 'in upcoming 2 years these were increased drastically at 933' and 'fatal incidents were less than 100'. These phrasing choices sound unnatural. To reach a higher band, you should aim to use a wider range of vocabulary to describe trends, such as 'fluctuated', 'peaked', or 'remained stable', and ensure that your word choices are contextually accurate.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The response contains frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede communication. There are issues with subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'fatal had less cases'), incorrect preposition usage, and awkward sentence structures (e.g., 'It is clearly seem that'). The use of complex sentence structures is limited, and the errors in basic sentence construction are noticeable. The final sentence is grammatically incomplete, which is a significant issue. Focusing on basic sentence accuracy and proofreading for missing words would help improve your score in this area.
