Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 4.0
The response fails to accurately report the data provided in the table. You have misinterpreted the figures, often confusing raw numbers with percentages or misreading the years. For example, you state 'in 1998 and 1999 the very low amount of fatal only 49 percent', which does not align with the provided statistics. Furthermore, the summary lacks a clear overview of the main trends, such as the overall increase in crime figures over the decade. The conclusion contains a factual error, claiming 'in 2007 no crime by using gun and knife', which contradicts the data. To improve, focus on identifying the most significant changes and ensuring the data points cited are accurate.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The essay lacks a logical structure. While there are paragraphs, the progression of ideas is disjointed and confusing. The use of cohesive devices is limited and often misused, such as 'First of all' to start a description of data, which is inappropriate for a report. The referencing is unclear, making it difficult for the reader to follow which data point relates to which category of injury. To improve, use clear topic sentences for each paragraph and employ linking words like 'in contrast', 'furthermore', or 'consequently' to connect your observations more effectively.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is very limited and repetitive, relying heavily on basic terms like 'increase' and 'crime'. There are frequent errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'smothly decrease 49 percent' and 'the very low amount of fatal'. The range of vocabulary is insufficient to describe trends or data points with precision. You should aim to use a wider variety of verbs and adverbs to describe trends, such as 'fluctuated', 'remained stable', or 'experienced a sharp rise', and ensure you use the correct terminology for the data provided.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The response contains frequent grammatical errors that often impede communication. There are issues with sentence structure, such as the opening sentence which is a fragment ('The graph shows that the number of crimes...'). Subject-verb agreement is inconsistent, for example, 'crimes increases' and 'fatal also increase'. Punctuation is also problematic, with erratic spacing and misuse of hyphens. The range of structures is limited to simple sentences, and attempts at more complex constructions are often inaccurate. Focusing on basic sentence construction and proofreading for subject-verb agreement would significantly improve your score.
