Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 150 words, which significantly impacts the task achievement score. While you have identified some main features, the analysis is superficial. You mention specific years and figures, such as the increase in slight injuries in 2004-2005, but you fail to provide a comprehensive overview of the data trends. The report lacks a clear comparison between the categories (fatal, serious, slight) and does not sufficiently highlight the percentage growth data provided in the final row. To improve, ensure you cover all parts of the prompt and provide a more detailed analysis of the data points to reach the required length.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organized into short paragraphs, which is a good start. However, the logical progression is weak. The transition between the overview and the body paragraphs is abrupt, and the use of cohesive devices is limited and somewhat mechanical (e.g., 'Similarly', 'Likewise', 'In conclusion'). The final paragraph is very brief and does not effectively synthesize the information provided. To improve, use a wider range of linking words to connect your ideas more fluidly and ensure that each paragraph has a clear focus that contributes to the overall summary of the data.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary used is adequate for the task but lacks the precision and variety expected at higher bands. You rely on basic verbs like 'increased', 'reduced', and 'took a growth'. Phrases such as 'took a growth' are unnatural in this context. To improve, incorporate more sophisticated vocabulary related to data description, such as 'fluctuated', 'peaked', 'witnessed a decline', or 'remained stable'. You should also aim to use more precise terminology when describing the trends in the table to demonstrate a wider range of lexical resource.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The response contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are noticeable errors in grammar and tense usage. For example, 'the number of slight injuries has also been increasing' is slightly awkward given the past timeframe of the data. There are also issues with preposition usage and sentence construction, such as 'took a growth from 1998 to 2004'. While these errors do not completely impede communication, they occur frequently enough to affect the overall clarity. Focus on using consistent tenses when describing historical data and practice more complex sentence structures to improve your range.
