Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The student successfully reports the main features of the table, including an overview and relevant data points across the given categories. The overview correctly identifies that slight injuries were the highest throughout the period, while fatal injuries were the lowest. Key figures are highlighted, such as the significant rise in slight injuries and the fluctuation in serious injuries. However, there are some minor data inaccuracies; for instance, the text mentions that slight injuries fell to 3296 in '2005' rather than '2005-2006', and the details regarding the final year (2006-2007) are missing from the body paragraphs despite being present in the source data. Overall, all parts of the task are addressed, earning a solid Band 6.5.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The response is organized into four logical paragraphs, following a standard academic essay structure with an introduction, an overview, and two body paragraphs detailing specific trends. Cohesive devices such as 'Overall', 'In contrast', and 'before getting doubled' are used to connect ideas, though some transitions feel a bit mechanical or unnatural. Paragraphing is handled appropriately, with each paragraph focusing on a distinct aspect of the visual data. Referencing is generally clear, though occasional awkward phrasing affects the overall flow. This corresponds well to a Band 6.5 for Coherence and Cohesion.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The student demonstrates an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, attempting less common lexical items such as 'substantially', 'fluctuating', and 'significantly'. However, there are notable lexical and collocation errors throughout the text, such as 'the incline in number' instead of 'the increase in the number', 'using from gun and knife crime' instead of 'resulting from gun and knife crime', and 'sharp declining' instead of 'sharp decline'. Some prepositions and word forms are used incorrectly. Because these errors do not severely impede communication, the performance aligns with Band 6.0.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The student attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, using temporal clauses and participial phrases such as 'before getting doubled' and 'before experiencing sharp declining'. However, grammatical accuracy is inconsistent. There are several missing articles ('the incline in number', 'throught time period') and awkward passive/active confusions ('fatal injuries were the lowest crime done'). Furthermore, verb tense and form control falters occasionally ('slighlty increased'). The frequency of these errors places the writing firmly in the Band 6.0 category.
