The table shows the number of fatal, serious and slight injuries resulting from gun and knife crime in Great Britain from 1998 to 2007 and the percentage increase for each degree of injury over the period.

The table provides information about the number of people who suffered fatal, serious and slight injuries as a result of gun and knife crime in Great Britain between 1998 and 2007. It also shows the percentage increase in each category over the period.

Overall, the total number of injuries increased considerably, with slight injuries accounting for the largest proportion throughout the period. While fatal injuries rose by only 18%, serious and slight injuries increased much more significantly, by 194% and 405% respectively.

In 1998–1999, there were 49 fatal injuries, 162 serious injuries and 653 slight injuries, giving a total of 864 cases. These figures generally increased over the following years. Fatal injuries reached a peak of 95 in 2001–2002 before falling to 49 in 2005–2006. By contrast, serious injuries climbed steadily, reaching 476 cases in 2005–2006.

The most dramatic growth was seen in slight injuries. Their number rose from 653 in 1998–1999 to 3,424 in 2004–2005, before declining slightly to 3,296 in 2005–2006. Consequently, the total number of injuries increased from 864 to 3,821 over the same period.
