Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 4.0
The response fails to meet the minimum length requirement of 150 words, stopping abruptly at only 100 words and trailing off mid-sentence ("and"). Furthermore, the writing cuts off before reporting the full scope of the table, omitting critical data such as the specific peak years for various injury types and the overall percentage increases. While the student correctly identifies the general trend that slight injuries were the highest, the incomplete nature of the response severely restricts the overall task fulfilment.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 4.5
The text is organized with an introduction and an overview paragraph, showing an initial attempt at structuring an Academic Task 1 response. However, because the essay cuts off prematurely in the third paragraph, the logical progression is entirely disrupted. Cohesive devices are minimal, and referencing is limited. Paragraphing is attempted, but the abrupt ending prevents the establishment of a fully coherent overarching structure.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The student attempts some subject-specific vocabulary such as "fatal, serious and slight injuries" and "percentage increases". However, there are notable spelling errors ("statics" instead of statistics, "Great Britian" instead of Britain, "incresead" instead of increased) and lexical repetition. The range of vocabulary is quite basic and limited, which is exacerbated by the very short length of the text.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 4.5
The writer demonstrates control over some basic simple sentence structures in the opening paragraphs ("The table illustrates..."). However, the response contains basic grammatical and spelling errors (e.g., "th total number" instead of 'the total number'). Because the text trails off incomplete in the third sentence of the body paragraph, it is impossible to evaluate a wider range of complex structures.
