The table shows the number of fatal, serious and slight injuries resulting from gun and knife crime in Great Britain from 1998 to 2007 and the percentage increase for each degree of injury over the period.

Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.

The table gives information about how many people were killed or injured because of gun and knife crime in Great Britain between 1998 and 2007, and it also shows the percentage increase for each type of injury.

Overall, it is clear that the number of injuries went up a lot during this period, and slight injuries increased the most. Fatal injuries, on the other hand, changed only a little.

In 1998–1999 there were 653 slight injuries, and this number rose to 3,424 in 2004–2005, before falling slightly to 3,296 in the following year. This was an increase of 405 per cent. Serious injuries followed a similar pattern, going up steadily from 162 to 476, which is a rise of 194 per cent.

In contrast, the number of fatal injuries was much lower. It started at 49, reached a peak of 95 in 2001–2002, and then went down again to 58 in 2006–2007, an increase of only 18 per cent. In total, injuries rose by 342 per cent.
