Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

The response attempts to describe the main features of the table regarding gun and knife crime in Great Britain from 1998 to 2007. However, there are significant inaccuracies in data interpretation. For instance, the writer claims that 'in the end of time period only fatal cases were recorded and no serious and slight cases', which is factually incorrect as the table simply omits data for 2006-2007 for those categories rather than showing zero. Furthermore, the overview is rather vague and misses key comparative elements. While the response touches upon the main trends, the misinterpretation of data and lack of precise reporting for the later years restrict it to a Band 5.0.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

The text is divided into paragraphs, attempting an introduction, an overview, and body paragraphs. However, the logical progression is hindered by awkward transitions and confusing statements, such as 'Comparingly in year 2000 the cases were grown again'. Cohesive devices are sometimes mechanical or inaccurate (e.g., 'Firstly, in the initial year...', but the subsequent paragraphs do not follow a clear sequence like 'Secondly'). Referencing is also weak in places, making it difficult to follow the development of ideas. Paragraphing is present, but overall the organization lacks clear overall progression, aligning with a Band 5.0.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The lexical range is limited and repetitive. The writer frequently uses basic terms and struggles with word choice and collocation, such as 'crime with involved of guns and knifes', 'percentage growth', and 'cases were grown'. There are noticeable lexical errors, such as 'severe and minor injuries' being introduced as translations for the table's categories, and inappropriate phrasing like 'emerged rapidly' instead of 'increased significantly'. While the vocabulary is minimally adequate to convey the basic topic, the frequent errors and restricted range place this at a Band 5.0.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The response displays a very limited range of grammatical structures. Most complex sentence attempts are faulty or awkwardly phrased, such as 'The table illustrates the detail view with number of injuries occured in crime with involved of guns and knifes resulting deaths...'. There are frequent errors in prepositions, verb forms, and sentence construction (e.g., 'the crimes was less', 'cases had a steady increase'). Punctuation is also problematic, including lowercase letters at the beginning of sentences like 'Overall, In Great Britain...'. These persistent errors cause some difficulty for the reader and reflect Band 5.0 descriptors.
