Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
The response attempts to summarize the data from the table, but it fails to provide a proper overview of the main trends. Instead of selecting and grouping key features or reporting significant comparisons, the writer lists the data chronologically, year by year, in a mechanical fashion. Furthermore, the final year of data (2006-2007) and the percentage increase row provided in the table are entirely omitted from the summary. Consequently, the task is only partially addressed, leading to a Band 5.0 rating for Task Achievement.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
The text suffers from a lack of effective paragraphing, as nearly every sentence forms its own short paragraph, which disrupts the logical flow of the report. Although there is a chronological sequence, the lack of an overarching structure and the repetitive use of sentence openings (e.g., 'From year...') make the text tedious to read. Cohesive devices are minimal and mechanical, and referencing is sometimes awkward or unclear. These formatting and organizational weaknesses place the response firmly at Band 5.0 for Coherence and Cohesion.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The vocabulary used is very basic and repetitive throughout the report. The student relies heavily on simple phrases like 'total injuries', 'fatal injuries', 'serious injuries', and 'slight injuries' without attempting any synonyms or paraphrase. There are awkward lexical choices and phrasing, such as 'expand at a faster pace than last years' and 'there is huge difference from last year'. Because the vocabulary is limited and repetitive, it corresponds to a Band 5.0 level.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The response displays a very limited range of grammatical structures, consisting mostly of simple sentences or poorly linked clauses. There are frequent grammatical errors and punctuation issues, such as comma splices ('...the total injuries were 1877, 95 fatal injuries...'), missing auxiliary verbs ('its 1195'), and tense inconsistencies. Several sentences are fragmented or ungrammatical (e.g., 'there is increase in the total injuries its 1195'). These frequent errors and the lack of complex sentence control warrant a Band 5.0 score.
