Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

The student attempts to address the task by summarising the main features of the table, covering the categories of injuries and overall trends. However, there are significant factual misinterpretations of the data provided. For instance, the student states that '2006-2007 was the only year which experienced fatalities without having any other types of injuries' and that the table shows missing data as a complete absence of incidents, misinterpreting the hyphens in the table. Furthermore, the percentage increase for the total is misattributed, and data points like the peak in 2005-2006 are mentioned, but overall the selection and reporting of main features contains notable inaccuracies regarding the dataset. This places the response in the lower-middle bands for Task Achievement.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The response is organised into distinct paragraphs, starting with an introduction, followed by an overview, and body paragraphs detailing the categories. There is a clear attempt to use cohesive devices such as 'Overall', 'After which', 'Lastly', and 'Additionally'. However, referencing and progression are sometimes faulty, particularly in the second paragraph where the overview statements about injury severity ('least', 'most common', 'highest form of damage') are confusingly phrased and contradict standard interpretations of the data. Paragraphing is present, but overall logical progression is hindered by awkward transitions and confusing sentence linking.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

The student demonstrates an adequate vocabulary range to discuss numerical data and trends, employing terms such as 'displays', 'percentage increase', 'upward trend', and 'incidents'. However, there are noticeable spelling errors (e.g., 'dislpays', 'expereinced', 'recorder') and instances of imprecise word choice and collocation (e.g., 'fatal harm', 'gaining more figures', 'most injurious year'). While the vocabulary used is sufficient to communicate the general topic, these lexical inaccuracies and spelling slips restrict the score to a Band 5.5.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

The student attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, including relative clauses and temporal markers (e.g., 'from the year 1998 to 2002, after which it dropped gradually'). However, grammatical control is inconsistent. There are run-on sentences and punctuation issues, such as the comma splice in the opening sentence ('...from 1998 to 2007, it also gives...'). Errors in verb tense consistency and preposition usage also appear throughout the text. These errors occur frequently enough to cause occasional strain for the reader, though they do not completely impede communication.
